CARA DELEVINGNE WILL ALWAYS BE LONDON’S IT-GIRL

The 90s may have had Kate Moss, but few people capture the spirit of post-millennium British fashion quite like Cara Delevingne. Whether she was pasted across your tumblr page or responsible for your sprawling stash of brow products, Cara was the girl we all wanted to be. And if she was our fashionable teacher, then Topshop was our place of study. Thumbing through racks of skinny jeans while a large-scale portrait of Cara watched over us? That’s pure 2010s nostalgia. So, it makes total sense that the supermodel has just been named the face of Topshop’s next chapter. To celebrate this milestone, we thought it only right to take a trip down memory lane and revisit some of Cara’s best looks. Long-live London’s ultimate it-girl.

2013: QUEEN OF TOPSHOP

Nothing screams early 2010s like a patent A-line skirt – and Topshop was the MVP on that front. Walking the catwalk at Topshop’s 2013 show (did you hear, the Topshop runway is returning too?!), Cara was every bit the Brit-core queen. This navy and black combo has echoes of quiet luxury, and the long faux-fur coat with an oversized bowling bag wouldn’t look out of place on the King's Road today. We love the cowboy boot mules and ankle socks, an unexpected combo that blends preppy chic with Western flair. Dare we say, this look speaks to several current trends without feeling dated.

2014: DIVINE FEMININE

Another Topshop corker, this sheer tulle dress proves Cara’s power as a style chameleon. The scattered sequin embroidery and ribbon-finished heels are a delicious blend of every mid-summer feminine trend we yearned after at the time. And the corsage is a fun nod to prom (what’s more throwback than that?). As mesh makes a comeback in 2025’s summer wardrobe, we can picture this floating mini turning heads in a Grecian taverna – or an East London wine bar, if we’re staying true to Cara’s roots.

2016: BRITISH HERITAGE

Jumping forwards a couple of years to a seriously British situation. Cara attending the Burberry show in London, kitted out in a black mini dress that would give Anne Boleyn a run for her money. We love the 15th-century energy this look gives with exaggerated sleeves, a cinched waist and matching cape (of course). While we might not always have the social appointments worthy of such a get-up, the formula is worth a once-over. Not least for the addition of a gladiator sandal (they’re back, if you hadn’t heard).

2017: LAYERS ON LAYERS

The visibly present Supreme boxers. The skinny white sweatpants. The cropped navy cardigan with gold buttons. The round mirrored sunglasses. The choker. When it comes to this outfit, we don’t quite know where to look. And yet it completely works. Perhaps that’s the magic of 2017 – widely regarded as one of the best years in recent history. If Cara’s laissez-faire attitude to dressing is anything to go by, then we were clearly having more fun with our wardrobes at the time. This ‘fit might not feel quite as relevant today, but it’s certainly inspired us to take an unexpected – and joyful – approach to our clothes.

2025: GOTHIC GLAMOUR

Bringing us up to speed and into the present day, Cara debuted a deliciously devilish look at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival earlier this year. With a bedroom smokey eye and a wine-coloured gown, this one is worthy of the Delevingne hall of fame. Once again, Cara flexes her shapeshifting muscles – and we can’t get enough of the choppy black hair. It might be summer, but we’re adding this to the moodboard for some style inspo come autumn.
