Ah, baby shower outfits. Cute in theory, but sometimes tricky to nail when there are a few variables to consider: the venue, the season and sometimes the baby's gender. But don’t worry, our handy guide below includes baby shower outfits for guests and glowing parents-to-be – from garden parties to a night away. We’ve sorted what to wear for your baby shower, but not the add-ons. Cast your gaze away from heels – they’re unsafe for future mothers, and they’re a brave decision if you’ll be on your feet all day. Ballet flats offer the same outfit elevation, but at ground level. Accessorise with printed headscarves, headbands and dainty jewellery. If your accessories feature any floral or heart motifs, even better.

WHAT ARE THE BEST COLOUR CHOICES FOR A BABY SHOWER?

The easiest and most popular palette relates to the gender of the baby – you can’t go wrong with a standard powder blue or baby pink. But if the gender hasn’t been revealed yet, or you’re not keen on being so on-the-nose, choose different pastels to mark the occasion. Lilac, lemon yellow and light neutrals can create a delicate baby shower palette, and produce some very aesthetically pleasing pictures, too.

CAN I WEAR JEANS OR CASUAL OUTFITS TO A BABY SHOWER?

If you’re the one expecting, resist the urge to wear jeans on the big day – they’re infamous for restricting movement. If you want casual baby shower outfits that don’t consist of a dress, choose stretchy, flowy, adjustable trousers or a jersey co-ord instead. Jeans are a put-together pick for guests, though. Baggy denim gives an off-duty edge, but barrel-leg or wide-leg jeans are perfect for a smarter dress code.

ARE JUMPSUITS APPROPRIATE FOR A BABY SHOWER?

Jumpsuits are definitely appropriate for a baby shower, depending on the dress code. They've seen a slight resurgence recently, too, thanks to the return of 2010s trends. HOW DO I DRESS FOR A BABY SHOWER IN DIFFERENT SEASONS?

A baby shower could pop up in your cal at any time, so the floor is yours when it comes to seasonal dressing. If you’ve RSVP’d to a spring baby shower, prints are an easy wardrobe win. For a summer affair, stay cool in shorts, linen co-ords or mini dresses. And for autumn/winter, cover up and maximise your comfort in jumpers, trench coats and boots.
