STYLE AND CULTURE

EVERYTHING ON OUR RADAR THIS MONTH

For most of us, May signals the start of summer: brighter evenings, lighter wardrobes and a packed cultural calendar. If the past few months were the warm-up, the next four weeks are your main event – so limber up those social muscles and get the planner ready. Lucky for you, we’ve rounded up the crème-de-la-crème of what’s hot this May. Scroll on for everywhere you need to be, everything you need to see, and everything in between.

THUNDERBOLTS: 2 MAY
Even if Marvel isn’t your thing, the studio’s latest movie Thunderbolts promises to have something for everyone: a stellar cast – including Florence Pugh and David Harbour – iconic accents, and an action-packed plot line. This alternative take on the superhero story already has critics raving, and we’re sure the rest of us will be close behind.

NINE PERFECT STRANGERS, SEASON 2: 22 MAY
Nicole Kidman is back in guru mode as Masha Dmitrichenko, leading an all-new cast including Henry Golding and Murray Bartlett. With its mix of glossy aesthetics, simmering tension, and high-fashion minimalism, Nine Perfect Strangers season two is your next must-binge, even on a sunny day.

THE PHOENICIAN SCHEME: 23 MAY
The moment we saw the trailer for Wes Anderson’s latest film, The Phoenician Scheme, we knew May was bringing the entertainment factor. The upcoming crime comedy-drama features all the best of our favourite indie director’s flicks, with technicolour sets, chic costumes and an iconic cast (whoever pitched this to Michael Cera deserves a raise).

MILEY CYRUS, SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL: 30 MAY
If you’ve been eyeing Miley’s recent rock-n-roll aesthetic, you’re not alone. The singer’s been serving a carousel of incredible all-black ‘fits while teasing her new album Something Beautiful, dropping at the end of the month. The queen of creative reinvention rarely misses, and after the viral success of Endless Summer Vacation we have a feeling her new tracks will be shoo-ins for our summer 2025 playlist.

PINKPANTHERESS, FANCY THAT: 9 MAY
Never one to disappoint on the Y2K front, Pinkpantheress is back with what she’s calling her most British mixtape yet. Fancy That is set to embrace everything kitsch and iconic about UK culture (there’s even a red phone booth on the album cover) – think early 2000s nostalgia by the bucketload. We’re adding velour tracksuits to our basket as we speak.

AMINÉ, 13 MONTHS OF SUNSHINE: 16 MAY
Portland-born rapper Aminé recently returned with his new song Familiar, tee-ing up for a brand-new album release later this month. Aptly titled 13 Months of Sunshine, this record will be his first solo studio album since August 2020’s Limbo. If the album artwork is anything to go by, the project promises feel-good beats and flip-flop-worthy tracks. That’s our summer afternoons sorted.

THE MET GALA: 5 MAY
The first Monday in May needs no introduction. 2025’s Met Gala looks are set to raise the fashion bar, with the theme Superfine: Tailoring Black Style celebrating the political and aesthetic constructs of Black dandyism. It’s also the first Met to feature all-male chairs (not including Anna Wintour, of course), and with designers like Pharrell Williams and Grace Wales Bonner involved, expect tailoring history to be made on the red carpet.

CANNES FILM FESTIVAL: 13-24 MAY
Another major sartorial moment this month is the Cannes Film Festival, taking place over a week in mid-May. Expect a star-studded guestlist, first looks at the year’s biggest films, and some of the most glamorous suiting and booting this side of the Atlantic. Consider us seated.

THE GREAT GATSBY, MUSICAL: FROM 11 APRIL
Old sport! The Great Gatsby has officially arrived on stage in a musical format, and personally, we can't think of anything better. ASOS already caught an exclusive peek of the show, and we can safely say it doesn't disappoint. If you're looking for a glitzy night out complete with dazzling 1920s fashion and a truly iconic soundtrack, look no further...
