SPRING WILL BE BURSTING WITH BRIGHTS

A black blazer and blue jean hate to see me coming – but I’ll admit the minimalist wardrobe is due a sabbatical. We’ve had months of ‘quiet luxury’ this and ‘capsule collection’ that. Can’t a girl catch some colour around here? Well, as it turns out, my saturation-starved rotation is about to be fed. Whispers of a vibrant overhaul have echoed through the fashion-house halls for some time. Then there was British Vogue’s joy-filled March cover. And when Jonathan Anderson’s latest Dior collection was unveiled at a rooftop greenhouse in Paris this week, there was no doubt: this spring will be bursting with brights. From lavender to tangerine, it’s time to forget everything you thought you knew about colour theory and start dressing for dopamine. In no particular order, here are the spring colours set to dominate the season.

BABY BLUE

I love a bit of pathetic fallacy, so I’m lusting after the first shade on this list. Just as the sky starts to soften and the sun crawls out, baby blue is de-throning cobalt and azure as fashion’s favourite colour. This delicate hue has a cool undertone that’s typically associated with cooler weather – but thanks to its pastel-adjacent energy and dusty finish, baby blue is a great transitional shade. I’ve already spotted satin slips and lightweight knits in this refreshing tone, and they’ve gone straight on my moodboard.

TANGERINE

I knew this season would be fruitful – and the orange renaissance proves me right. Dresses, swimsuits, bags, you name it. Our clothes are getting the citrus treatment. Tangerine can be a divisive colour given how vivacious it is, but paired with the right pieces and it’s surprisingly flattering. Not only does it add some sunny warmth to your post-winter roster, but orange looks great on tan and deep skin tones – making it ideal for your pending holidays. Opt for accessories, accents and footwear if you’re not ready to dive head-first into the apricot lifestyle. But if you do go head-to-toe tonal, you’ll be sweetly rewarded.

CHARTREUSE

Another unexpected arrival on the spring colour palette is chartreuse – a very specific combination of lime and yellow. Famed for its namesake drink, this lurid shade takes bold dressing to new heights. And while some have said 2026 is the year of the cabbage, my money’s on something slightly sharper. Building on the citrus tastes of orange, chartreuse has emerged on SS26 runways in everything from skirts to draped dresses. Pair with neutrals like chocolate brown for a 70s-inspired ensemble that still feels wearable.

LAVENDER

As far as controversial colours go, lavender is up there with the best of them. But don’t let its reputation fool you. 2026 is throwing judgement to the wayside in favour of feminine, soft purple pieces. From feathered sheer styles to intricate embroidery – lavender provides a perfect chance to indulge in your girlhood fantasies. It’s giving Groovy Chic all grown up. And if you needed more convincing, just take the deep plum-toned pieces you fell for last autumn and turn up the brightness for a spring-appropriate alt.

TOMATO RED (AND BUBBLEGUM PINK)

Red has stayed atop the fashion colour wheel for so long now that it hardly counts as a trend. But spring will see it emerge in a far more provocative way. No more ‘pops of red’ here. We’re talking colour-drenched looks and tomato-toned trousers. Jackets, shirts, shoes and belts – there’s no limit to red’s hold on our wardrobes. And to ensure your ‘fit feels seasonal, try layering with bubblegum pink. These colours have a sisterly relationship, and by pairing red’s sharp depth with delicate pink statements you’ll concoct an eye-catching look that feels modern and truly joyful.
