I’VE BEEN WATCHING THE RUNWAYS – THESE ARE THE SPRING TRENDS TO KNOW

Besides discovering the secret second layer in a chocolate box, nothing awakens the soul like spring. Sure, summer has its strong points, but there’s something special about the promise of change that follows winter. That first fizzle of sun on your skin; the smell of blossom; the elongated afternoons. Spring is my favourite season. But it’s fashion that really wins this time of year. From ‘just right’ temperatures to sunnier palettes, the next few months were designed for transitional dressing. And after poring over the SS26 runways, I’ve compiled a formidable spring trend report. Whether you’re searching for a light jacket or diving into colourful pieces, keep scrolling for the spring clothing trends you need on your radar.

VINTAGE-STYLE ACCESSORIES

Who comes to mind when the sun first pops out? For me, it’s Grace Kelly, Princess of Monaco. She’s in an open-top car with a silk scarf on her head. This old-school glamour has always had an air of spring about it, and this year fashion is catching on. The new season is all about personalising an outfit with unique accessories – specifically pieces that have a vintage feel. Think satin scarves, beaded bags and brooches. Anything that takes your look from off-the-rack to ‘where did you find that?’ is a worthwhile investment. These are great for updating your basics, so consider looping a scarf through your jeans in place of a belt or refreshing a simple white shirt with some statement pins.

FLORALS AND PEARLS

A spring trend report that features florals? Cue the eye rolls. But there’s a reason this print is ubiquitous with the shifting seasons. They might be on the nose, but floral prints are filled with all the fun and frivolity that this time of year is known for. They’re also surprisingly versatile, meaning each passing year brings its own iteration. 2026 is leaning heavily into joy after years of demure dressing. Opt for bold and vivaciously textured pieces. Pearls also come into the fold here, adding a classic spin on modern combinations. If you’re ever in doubt, more is more this year. As Audrey Hepburn once said: life is a party, so dress for it. The rest will follow.

MID-LENGTH SHORTS

We might not have reached peak shorts season just yet, but my legs are already itching for their annual debut. 2025 was the year of the oversized, uber-long jort – but this spring favours something a little more middle-ground. Mid-length shorts will soon be everywhere, from denim to cargos and even leather styles. This is great news if you’re short-adverse, as the boxy silhouette is deeply flattering. It also adds a relaxed, tomboy feel to your other pieces – great for throwing on with a simple white T-shirt or more elevated blouses and jackets. I also love this silhouette with a sheer sock and kitten heel for transitional date-night dressing.

LIGHTWEIGHT JACKETS

A trench is always a good idea – and never more so than in spring. I could fill a book with all the reasons I love this jacket. But in the interest of time, I’ll boil it down to three: versatility, practicality and comfort. The trench is waterproof (great for April showers) and breathable enough to navigate unpredictable weather. It’s also a timeless staple that will complement your existing roster. I’ll always have time for a simple jean and trench jacket combo, but this season invites some bolder takes, too. Think funnel necks, dropped waists and unique textures like suede and even linen. As long as you nail the basic silhouette, this layer is your sartorial playground. So have fun.

CONTRAST DRESSING

There was a time when white jeans were the domain of early noughties school discos. But 2026 will see their triumphant return (albeit in more subdued iterations). We’re not talking stark white, uber skinny silhouettes. This season expect plenty of wide-leg ecru styles paired with black leather jackets and satin tops. White skirts are also set for a renaissance, building on last summer’s love affair with lace negligee styles. Balance these light pieces with edgier designs up-top, like biker and bomber jackets.
