EVERYTHING ON OUR RADAR THIS MONTH

September starts on a Monday this year, so you know it’s going to be a good month. Dropping temps and back-to-school season aside, there are so many things to be excited for this month – including new shows, places to be and album drops. If you’re not sure where to start, read on for what’s on.

ON SWIFT HORSES: 5 SEPTEMBER
What happens when a newlywed couple’s idyllic 50s lifestyle is set ablaze by the arrival of his bad-boy little brother? This screen adaptation of Shannon Pufahl’s genre-traversing novel stars Daisy Edgar-Jones, Will Poulter and Jacob Elordi in a complicated, emotional entanglement. This isn’t your average romance – expect love quadrangles, vintage Americana and heart-wrenching scenes.

ONLY MURDERS IN THE BUILDING SEASON 5: 9 SEPTEMBER
To the uninitiated, OMITB may seem like your run-of-the-mill ‘live, laugh, love’ comedy show, but veteran watchers will know it’s a rollercoaster of found families, drama and most importantly: murder. Season 4’s ending tricked us into thinking all was finally stable in New York, but the three musketeers (played by Selena Gomez, Martin Short and Steve Martin) have been looped into even more whodunnit chaos in this new season.

SLOW HORSES SEASON 2: 25 SEPTEMBER
Name one Gary Oldman-led TV show or film that wasn’t a certified 10/10. Exactly, you can’t. He reprises his role as Jackson Lamb, the supervisor of a disgraced and disgruntled unit of MI5 agents who navigate the UK’s espionage web. The show is so good that season 6 has already completed filming – a win for the suspense-seekers.

JADE, THAT’S SHOWBIZ BABY: 12 SEPTEMBER
We don’t know about you, but Plastic Box has been ringing in our minds on repeat. JADE’s already blessed us with six playlist-worthy singles, and they’re only the beginning (literally, they’re the first six songs) of her debut album That’s Showbiz Baby. If you’ve got any parties OTW, boo the DJ if they don’t spin this.

CARDI B, AM I THE DRAMA?: 19 SEPTEMBER
All four singles on Cardi B’s second album Am I The Drama? are excitingly sonically distinct – an early sign that this project shouldn’t be shoehorned into a box. But one thing we can be sure of? It’s going to be played everywhere, from the club to your bathroom. The album title may be a rhetorical question, but considering Cardi’s dedication to serving peak glamour 24/7, we’ll answer yes – in the best way possible.

MARIAH CAREY, HERE FOR IT ALL: 26 SEPTEMBER
Mariah Carey may be synonymous with festive season, but we welcome her supernatural singing voice all year round. Her sixteenth album, Here For It All, drops during the latter end of the month, and we’re already stocking up on tissues and prepping our vocal chords.

FASHION MONTH: 1 SEPTEMBER-7 OCTOBER
Starting in Tokyo and ending in Paris, fashion houses will showcase their SS26 collections for everyone from armchair fashion critics to frow A-listers. Highlights from last year included Willem Dafoe working the Miu Miu catwalk, Kylie Jenner having her Disney princess moment for Coperni and Schiaparelli’s sculptural corsetry. Get ready.

HIP HOP, LIVING A DREAM: UNTIL 11 SEPTEMBER
In this nostalgic exhibition, hip-hop history is explored through the photography of Jamel Shabazz, Joseph Rodriguez and Gregory Bojorquez. Starting from the early 80s, their work not only chronicles iconic rap pioneers like Master P and Outkast, but the rich and vibrant environments of NYC, Los Angeles and Atlanta that eventually gave way to this groundbreaking genre. It’s art like no other.

MARIE ANTOINETTE STYLE, V&A MUSEUM: FROM 20 SEPTEMBER
Notorious French queen Marie Antoinette’s fashion legacy can’t be overstated. Women of her day emulated her opulent dress sense – couture houses model collections on her to this day, and the V&A museum is showing it all off. Learn about the queen’s tragic (but fashionable) life through artwork, and see clothing from the likes of Vivienne Westwood, Alexander McQueen, Moschino and more.
