STYLE AND CULTURE

WHY DO WE LOVE ADAM BRODY’S GRANDPA STYLE SO MUCH?

Whether Adam Brody is new to you via Nobody Wants This or you’ve been around since his days as Seth Cohen in The O.C., right now – he’s everyone’s hyperfixation. But why? Is it his golden retriever energy, his obvious-but-not-sickening love for his wife, Leighton Meester, his ability to channel his own personality into every role he takes on? We're not sure. But this charming man can do no wrong in our eyes. Thinking about it, maybe that’s why we love his nonchalant grandad style so much.

Plenty of grandpa-adjacent aesthetics have had their moment: coastal, eclectic etc. etc. but Adam’s love of V-neck cardigans, sweater vests and thick twill blazers feels inherently him. And if you look back at his past style choices, you’ll find much of the same. Even his on-screen performances have the same sense of style. Whether he takes inspiration from them or vice versa is a chicken-and-egg situation, but either way, we’re grateful. Because his style is paving the way for winter wardrobes everywhere. Here are three steps to achieving the Adam Brody effect.

#1: REALLY GOOD KNITWEAR

Knitwear

Having a strong knitwear game is key to emulating Adam’s style. Whether your preferences lie with slouchy cardigans, cable-knit jumpers or knitted vests, it doesn’t matter, so long as you layer them over relaxed shirts with the collar poking out. For extra pizzazz, think about investing in a pattern or two.

Blazers

If there’s one thing about Adam Brody, it’s that he loves a blazer. Not the slick black kind, though. They have to have texture – we’re talking thick twills, tweeds, herringbones and checks. Heritage-inspired styles are already on our radar this season, so there are plenty to choose from. Not only will a textured blazer add dimension to your look, the thicker weaves will keep you warm, too.

#3: CONSIDERED ACCESSORIES

Accessories

Accessories are always a surefire way to tie a look together, but they’re especially important here. From argyle socks to vintage-style watches and freshly polished shoes, it’s these details that make an outfit feel considered and elevated. Adam always does this well, even down to the colour palette – you’ll never catch him in an outfit that hasn’t been thought out, even if it looks effortless.
