SUNGLASSES SEASON IS HERE – THESE ARE THE SHAPES TO KNOW
By Symone Keisha, 19 May 2025
There’s no accessory that elevates an outfit quite like a pair of sunglasses. They’ve been every cool guy’s best friend since forever – creating the perfect way to go incognito after a heavy night or to hide from an awkward encounter with an ex. While it might be tempting to grab the first few pairs you see, take it from us – there’s a better way... scroll through our curated lineup of sunglasses shapes instead. From aviators to slim frames, these are the trending sunglasses shapes you need to know this summer.
#1: ALL ABOUT THE AVIATORS

Surprised to see aviators on the list? You shouldn’t be. They've long been a classic, and it seems they’re not going anywhere this season. Although they date back to the 1930s, it’s the 70s that everyone thinks of when they see these iconic frames. The beauty of these shades is that they pair well with pretty much everything, especially summer looks. But to keep in line with the 70s vibes, we recommend pairing with touch-soft textures, warm colour palettes and look-at-me prints.

#2: THE ROUND FRAME REIGN

If there's one shape that screams cool, it's the round frame. Frequently spotted on style icons like Pharrell Williams, this trend is made for the guys who take their fashion seriously. Styling-wise, round frames give you room to be bold – think clean boxy cuts, statement trousers such as wide legs or flares, and certified sneaker drops, too. Alternatively, round frames make a great choice for weddings overseas – there’s just something about jetting away that gives you license to take fashion risks.

#3: SLIM SHADES

While our wardrobe might be going oversized à la Justin Bieber, this season, take your sunnies micro for added cool. Super thin shades were huge on the Armani, Casablanca and Theophilio SS25 runways, and if you needed another reason to shrink your shades, Bad Bunny himself wore micro sunglasses to the Met Gala this year, too.

#4: FUTURISTIC FEELS

While we love a throwback, looking ahead isn’t such a bad idea either. Case in point: futuristic sunnies. Blending sporty shades with the wraparound style, this trend's for the bold. We saw them on the SS25 runways of Prada, Balenciaga and Vetements, so you know everyone will be wearing them this summer. Our suggestion? Pair them with dark-toned sportswear or bold summer brights to nail the look.

SPECIAL MENTION: YELLOW TINTED LENSES

Pictures: ASOS
Tinted lenses have been hot for a minute: just look at Colman Domingo’s recent looks. But we couldn’t publish a lineup of sunglasses without mentioning the most popular of all: yellow tinted lenses. Another 70s throwback that deserves the resurgence it’s been honoured with, we reckon we’ll be seeing a lot more of these shades this summer. You’ve been warned, stock up and be the first to wear them.
