WHY WE'RE LOVING REMA'S STYLE RIGHT NOW

If the words 'Eurotrash' and 'Y2Chaotic' have been slowly creeping onto your TL, chances are you've seen Nigerian artist Rema being paraded as a poster boy for the two cluttered, streetwear-and-grunge-inspired aesthetics. Having released his Grammy-nominated Afrobeats album HEIS last summer, dropped his new single Baby (Is it a Crime) and announced a tour, Rema's going to be everywhere, so you’d better get acquainted with him and his incredibly cool style.

HE LOVES AN ALL-BLACK MOMENT

Ever a connoisseur of Rick Owens, Chrome Hearts, Avirex and all the other labels you’ll find sprawling in the hip-hop scene, it’s safe to assume Rema really likes black. You’ll usually spot him with a leather jacket in a Harrington or a biker style, teamed with chained-up jeans for some extra edge – and if he endorses silver jewellery, we do too.

HIS FAVOURITE COMBO? BOLD PRINTS + BOLD COLOURS

Rema takes inspiration from noughties streetwear – think Pharrell’s myriad head-to-toe BAPE or Billionaire Boys Club outfits that feature brightly coloured basics, fun prints and monogram layers. We're taking notes from his recent courtside look: camo print hoodies, vibrant joggers and Timbs are as Y2K as it gets.

HE GOES BIG ON DENIM DETAILS

While performing in London last summer, Rema co-ordinated a distressed denim bomber jacket with similarly roughed-up super baggy jeans. This grungy look was completed with a pair of white Rick Owens Cargo Baskets and a signature cap. Double denim doesn't have to be basic – Rema's proof of that.

It’s often considered a pillar of preppy aesthetics, but the varsity jacket has more versatility than that.
