HOW WE'RE STYLING MODERN-HERITAGE PIECES THIS SEASON
By Symone Keisha, 11 November 2024
If you're looking for a fresh take on autumn-winter styling, you need to invest in some modern heritage pieces. Inspired by the street-style looks you'd find on the streets of Soho (that's LDN and NY), the aesthetic gives casual-meets-cool with bags of effortless retro-inspired style. Love the sound of it? Keep it locked for the lowdown from Head of Menswear Design, James Lawrence.

RETRO ENERGY
In a nutshell, modern heritage is all about returning to the retro-inspired aesthetic we've been seeing more of lately – think pros like Lucky Blue Smith and Jacob Elordi. James explained: 'Last A/W was all about gorpcore and tech – this year, there are practically no technical fabrics. It’s a total pendulum swing towards vintage and heritage styles.' In conclusion, you can put herringbone, tweed and salt-and-pepper fabrics on your AW24 mood board. Also note: checks play a big part in the trend, too.

ECLECTIC GRANDPA 2.0
Remember when eclectic grandpa had us in a chokehold at the beginning of the year? Well, meet the new and improved version. Less of the clashing colours and old-man aesthetic, more of a focus on quality knits and jackets, boxy cuts and accessories like loafers, boat shoes and baseball caps. If you need further proof that this trend is a major mood, just look to Tyler, The Creator, he's been nailing the aesthetic since forever.

BRANDS TO KNOW
If you'd like to add more modern-heritage pieces to your wardrobe, start with the icons. A classic brand like Barbour is a no-brainer; invest in key pieces like cords and wool Harringtons to elevate your 'fits. Plus, Carhartt WIP and Dickies are certified go-tos for vintage-inspired denim, and head to Fred Perry for your knitwear needs.

CUTS, COLOURS AND SILHOUETTE
If you want to instantly nail the trend, autumn tones are the palette of choice – think dark greens, browns and burgundy. And when talking about key cuts, James said: 'Our take on the trend is making the vintage heritage revival that we’ve seen on the runways feel a bit more streetwear. That means playing with 50s-meets-90s silhouettes.' That’s right, expect baggier high-waisted trousers paired with shorter-hem boxy tees, shirts and jackets. It’s a yes from us.
