NIKE AIR FOOTSCAPE WOVEN
By Nic Hayman, 18 July 2017
A cult classic in every sense, the Nike Air Footscape Woven (try saying that five times at pace) has landed at Looped. The excitement of our editors for these wonderfully weird kicks is off the chain – and here’s why…

Nike was on an experimental wave in 1995. Fresh from unveiling the Air Rift – a split-toed, sandal-sneaker mashup – it dropped the asymmetrically-laced Footscape into the mix, giving its running line-up some seriously cutting-edge credentials. Apparently, this revolutionary design was intended to take pressure off the top of your foot when exercising... but, we just reckon it looks cool.

As with many good things, it went big in Japan as streetwear trailblazers favoured the shoe’s unusual aesthetic. After word spread back west, the Swoosh honoured its unexpected popularity with a 2005 woven remix that shifted the Footscape firmly into the lifestyle category. Plenty of collabs and limited-edition colourways followed, making it into the off-kilter classic that it is today.

While the Footscape Woven still channels the technical running DNA from its original blueprint, the minimal branding combined with a more subtle colourway (like the greyscale number in this latest drop) make it just as suited to a tailored jacket as a tracksuit. Smart joggers and a sporty underlayer complete a strong 'fit. For a more relaxed take, though, go with the bolder navy/yellow colour combo with faded raw-hem denim, a track jacket and a cross-body bag.
The Nike Air Footscape Woven drops this week, so keep it locked to Looped.
