AUTUMN ESSENTIALS: WHAT TO WEAR THROUGHOUT TRANSITIONAL SEASON
By April Patch, 2 September 2024
As the nights start to draw in and the temperature drops, it's time to (reluctantly) hand the baton over to autumn. It's not all bad though, the seasonal shift means it's time for some new things. Whether you're navigating unpredictable weather (we've got the jackets and accessories for that) or just upgrading your look, we've rounded up some autumn essentials to switch into your rotation.

#1: NEW-SEASON KNITWEAR
Knitwear is a quintessential part of autumn fashion. A lightweight jumper offers warmth without being too much. Better yet, they're ideal for layering under blazers or jackets to build the foundation of your outfit. Use the changing of the leaves as your inspiration this season and opt for earthy tones such as beige, khaki or brown, as seen throughout Fendi's AW24 collection.

#2: BOOTS, OF COURSE
As the temperature begins to shift, so should your footwear, and autumn is the perfect time to bring your boots out of hibernation. Think suede desert boots teamed with dark denim for a cool-guy look, leather Chelsea boots and tailored trousers for dressier occasions and those all-important wellington boots to pair with your rainy-day outfit.

#3: TRANSITIONAL JACKETS
When the weather demands more robust layering, opt for classic outerwear pieces such as Harrington jackets or bomber jackets. We're gripped by Oasis fever right now, and these styles easily tap into the trend. Trench coats also offer timeless style points and keep you prepped for the season's unpredictability. Whether you're wearing them over your favourite suit or thrown over a hoodie, these jackets are invaluable for autumn dressing.

#4: LAYERS LAYERS LAYERS
Mastering the art of layering is essential for nailing transitional-season styling. Stacking textures, colours, and fabrics can create looks which buffer against the chill without adding too much bulk. Look to long-sleeved T-shirts, sweatshirts and cardigans to seemlessly transition from a brisk morning walk to a mild afternoon. Better yet, flannel and corduroy shackets bring an outdoorsy vibe to your look, a dream for weekend outings or dress-down days at the office – best-dressed award, tick.

#5: AUTUMN-PROOF ACCESSORIES
While coats and boots take centre stage in your A/W wardrobe, it’s the finishing touches that take your look to the next level. Few accessories know how to twin cosiness and practicality than the humble scarf. Perfect for draping over your shoulders or wrapping around your neck – just keep it on the thinner side, it's not winter yet! Don't forget to add your cap and shades too, AKA cheat code accessories for exuding Jacob-Elordi-off-duty energy on your weekend coffee runs.
