INSPIRATION AND ADVICE

NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTIONS YOU'LL ACTUALLY STICK TO, ACCORDING TO THE EDITORIAL TEAM

It could be Wednesday but you’re not sure. Your niece is making you watch KPop Demon Hunters for the fifth time. Your kitchen counter is laden with leftovers from the Boxing Day buffet. But that’s what Christmas is about, right? A fun time is had, but once the celebrations are over and the turkey demolished, we start to look forward to what the next year will bring. Is it a big career move? Maybe it’s just about getting your steps in? Either way, no goal is too big or small.

If you needed some goal-setting inspiration for 2026, look no further. The ASOS Editorial Team are sharing their New Year’s resolutions with how-tos on how to get started on them right away – that way they don’t become empty promises by mid-January. From fitness journeys to self-care and sartorial fun, scroll to find your 2026 resolution.

TO HAVE MORE FUN WITH FASHION

'I’m guilty of trying to reinvent myself every year. But in 2026, instead of transforming my entire personality through clothes, my goal is to have more freedom with fashion. I’m going to seek out pieces that spark joy for me – regardless of how much they fit into current trends. Nothing beats a unique wardrobe that tells a story, so this is the year of fewer fashion rules and more fun.'

Flo's Wishlist

‘I’m going to seek out pieces that spark joy for me – regardless of how much they fit into current trends. Nothing beats a unique wardrobe that tells a story, so this is the year of fewer fashion rules and more fun.' If this sounds like you, take Flo’s approach by reaching for clothes that you really love and building your outfits around them – regardless of the trend cycle. If a trend fits your style, great! But you don't need to make your style fit the trends.

TO GET BACK INTO RUNNING

Trainers

Running Gear

‘For me, the first step will be a new pair of trainers – because if I invest, I have to do it. And who wouldn’t want to get out on the pavement in a pair of neon-pink runners?’ If you’re entering your fitness arc in 2026 too, whether it’s running, Pilates or something entirely different, stocking up on some of the essentials might help. Contrary to the popular saying, ‘all the gear, no idea’, having some of the equipment can make you feel more prepared when it comes to doing something new.

TO HAVE A SOLID SLEEP ROUTINE

This has got to be the year I take sleep seriously – I’m over doomscrolling until midnight. My plan is to wind down earlier by switching off screens by 9pm, lighting a relaxing candle and indulging in a solid evening skincare routine.

Sleep Essentials

‘My plan is to wind down earlier by switching off screens by 9pm, lighting a relaxing candle and indulging in a solid evening skincare routine (including BIODANCE collagen masks and a LANEIGE lip mask, obviously). I want to start the ritual of planning my day the night before to help me decompress before 10.30pm. Then it's lights out and a frilly sleeping mask on. This aim is for someone (anyone!) to one day say “you actually look well-rested for once.”’ A cocktail of relaxing skincare, books instead of screens and some comfy pyjamas is all you need to get started on this resolution.

TO KEEP UP WITH SKINCARE

‘I’ve really fallen off the skincare wagon lately – skipping SPF, not double cleansing and sleeping in makeup. So next year I want to take skin AND bodycare super seriously.’

Skincare

‘I’ll be religiously double cleansing, getting into science-backed ingredients like PDRN, taking my makeup off after late nights, and upgrading my everything showers with scrubs, acids and shower oils. I may even invest in an LED face mask… 2026 is going to be my smoothest year yet!’ No matter what skin and bodycare you choose, consistency is key – create a routine you enjoy and it’ll be way easier to keep up with.
“For 2026, I’m making my wardrobe work smarter, not harder – fewer ‘just in case’ buys, more pieces I actually love wearing on repeat’ – Ayis, Junior Writer

‘I need foundation pieces that fit and wear well – tailored trousers, good jeans, a sleek boot, quality basics. This requires discipline, so I’ll be using all available tactics to fill the gaps in my wardrobe once and for all: the AI Digital Stylist on the ASOS app; TikTok sewing demos for adjusting my own hems; and a self-imposed ban on nice tops until said gaps are filled.’ As Katie says, invest in some good-quality essentials that fit you well. That way you won't want for those 'quick win' outfits – you've already got everything you need.
