HOW TO STYLE THE UNDERWEAR AS OUTERWEAR TREND

There’s something deliciously punk about impractical – yet still wearable – fashion. And a sheer lace dress on a cold day should be the poster girl for unapologetically confident style. Dakota Johnson’s recent Gucci look stopped us all in our tracks when it hit the red carpet – and it’s this intricate balance of coverage and exposure that makes a lacy lingerie look so successful. Opt for long sleeves and high necks to balance a barely-there fabric, or pair sheer lace pieces with more structured silhouettes to keep things looking chic. Personally, we love a see-through top paired with luxurious lingerie and tailored trousers – what better excuse to invest in that bra you’ve been eyeing?

One way to adapt the lingerie as outerwear trend for autumn? Add faux fur of course. Fuzzy trims and jackets have dominated the AW25 collections, and they’re the perfect cosy complement to more daring get-ups. In fact, adding a faux-fur detail to your sheer look is a shortcut to old-Hollywood glamour. Just look at arguably the most famous underwear as outerwear ‘fit of all time – Rihanna’s Swarovski dress. You might not be working with the same budget, but emulating this infamous outfit is easier than you might think.

The bustier will always be iconic. It’s flattering, intricate, and endlessly adaptable. And thanks to bold designers like the aforementioned Dilara Findikoglu (whose SS26 collection had a delightful air of early McQueen) these silhouettes are getting re-worked for a rebellious era. The clean lines of classic corsetry can be softened with sheer skirts and floating fabrics – so consider pairing a structured top with a romantic skirt or a delicate fabric like lace.

Margot Robbie and Jenna Ortega are just two stylish stars spearheading the embellished lingerie look. If recent carpets are anything to go by, draping oneself in diamonds and very little else is the new look du jour. And Kim Kardashian’s latest Vogue France cover cemented autumn 2025 as the season of almost-naked jewels. It’s easy to see why – what could be more glamorous?
