Three rules for airport style

Right now, are you doing as we’re doing and spending every waking moment dreaming of beaches and beers? As far as we’re concerned, the holiday starts the moment your 'out of office' goes on, and that means how you dress for the journey is every bit as important as what you put in your suitcase. With that in mind, here are three important rules to bear in mind when dressing for the plane, endorsed by the most #AirportSwag-worthy celebs out there.

Comfort is key
Jason Statham knows it and so should you. When flying long haul, nothing is more important than being able to schlep down in that chair and enjoy a guilty-pleasure movie without fear of your clothes digging in and pinching. But it doesn’t mean you have to abandon all sense of style. Slimline joggers ramp the comfort levels up to 11 but form the basis of a sleek look that won’t wrinkle or restrict you. Statham’s gone coordinated on top, with a matching khaki tee and bomber, which means he still looks put together, while his skate shoes are easy to slip on and off.

Layers are your friends
What with the unpredictable British weather, the stress of getting through the baggage drop without having to pay excess-weight charges, the inevitable freezing air-con on the plane and then the wave of sweltering heat at your destination, your temperature is likely to yo-yo like crazy. Follow Robert Pattinson’s lead and layer up. A tee under a light jacket or shirt with a heavier jacket or hoodie on top will mean you can peel layers on and off as necessary and always look like the bloke that got it right while the others sweat around you.

Pay attention to your accessories
Whether you’re going short or long haul, what you bring with you is vital. Look at Beckham – he’s got a cap to hide unsightly plane hair, sunglasses to cover up a lack of sleep and an extra jumper tied around his waist in case he gets chilly. He’s also casually slung a handsome-looking leather backpack over his shoulders – big enough to hold all his stuff, not so big that he looks foolish lugging it through the airport. It’s a textbook travel outfit, honed by years of jetting around the world – take note.
