EVERYTHING ON OUR RADAR THIS MONTH

Like a heel of bread, May is an underrated month. Wedged between April’s spring and June’s fully-fledged summer, it lingers on the cultural periphery despite offering plenty of sustenance. This year, the middle-ground of May is packed with enough music, TV and film to nourish us for the foreseeable. And whether you’re embracing the lull before a busy sun-drenched calendar or counting the days until your favourite show returns, May 2026 has something for everyone.

Miranda Priestly returns this month – that's all.

THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA 2 – 1 MAY

Arguably the biggest comeback of 2026, Miranda Priestly will return to our screens this month alongside original Devil Wears Prada castmates Anne Hathaway, Stanley Tucci and Emily Blunt. Given her iconic line about florals for spring, it’s only fitting that Meryl Streep’s legendary villain makes a reappearance on the first of May. Almost 20 years since the original film changed fashion, pop culture and our relationship with cerulean, this sequel is one of the most anticipated movies of the year.

OFF-CAMPUS – 13 MAY

This month isn’t just about comebacks. There are some noteworthy new launches, including Amazon Prime’s Off-Campus series. Adapted from the best-selling books, the show focuses on the lives, romances and college experiences of an elite ice hockey team. Sure to jump on the Heated Rivalry hype, this sporty ‘opposites-attract’ romance already has us blushing and kicking our heels.

RIVALS SEASON 2 – 15 MAY

The prospect of a croquet-playing Danny Dyer and pigeon-shooting David Tennant wasn’t exactly awards fodder. But Rivals emerged as one of the biggest shows of 2024. Combining an 80s wardrobe, randy characters and nail-biting plot lines, the adaptation of Dame Jilly Cooper’s Rutshire Chronicles had us all hooked. Now, our favourite buffet of problematic neighbours are back for a second instalment – and there are plenty of loose ends to tie up. Whether it’s Tony Baddingham’s vengeance against Rupert Campbell-Black, or the latter’s burgeoning love affair with Caggie, we’ll be seated for the season premiere.

KACEY MUSGRAVES, THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE – 1 MAY

Everyone’s favourite country-pop princess returns this month with a brand-new album. Her seventh record promises plenty of the soul-bearing, heart-wrenching romance that defines her body of work. And having already teased us with the single ‘Dry Spell’, we can’t wait to see what else Kacey has in store. Having written The Middle of Nowhere during ‘the longest single period of [my] life,’ we’re certain the record will provide the perfect soundtrack to our summer fantasies.

OLIVIA DEAN, THE ART OF LOVING TOUR – UNTIL 20 JUNE

Miss Olivia Dean has been on a whirlwind tour of her own, having snagged the Best New Artist Grammy award in March and treating us to a bevy of number-one hits. Now, the pop starlet is taking her new album The Art of Loving on a global tour, with UK dates beginning in May. Whether you managed to secure seats or you’re hunting for resale, this is one of the hottest tickets in town. And given her impeccable on-stage style, we can’t wait to see what looks Olivia whips out for her biggest sweep of shows yet.

The first Monday in May is fast approaching.

THE MET GALA – 4 MAY

The first Monday in May needs no introduction. It’s the biggest night in fashion, and for some, in the culture at large. For one illustrious evening in New York, the crème-de-la-crème of arts, music, film and fashion will descend on the Metropolitan Museum of Art in some of the wildest and most glamorous couture to ever grace a runway. This year’s theme, ‘Fashion is Art’, leaves the floor open to exciting interpretations and creative risks. And with a guest list boasting Met Gala royalty like Beyonce and Rihanna, we’ll be refreshing our feeds on Tuesday morning to pin down every last detail.

CANNES FILM FESTIVAL – 12-23 MAY

Another major event in the sartorial calendar, the Cannes Film Festival is famed not only for the incredible cinema but the legendary red carpet. The year’s biggest movies will be premiering over the course of a sunny week on the French coast, with Hollywood stars stepping out in their finery. Past Cannes Film Festivals have birthed moments of fashion history – including Bella Hadid’s Schiaparelli lung dress and Harry Styles’ carousel of Gucci sunglasses. So there’s no doubt 2026 will offer up a new batch of unforgettable looks.

THE MUSIC IS BLACK: A BRITISH STORY AT V&A EAST MUSEUM – UNTIL JANUARY 2027

The sun may finally be out, but London’s museums are giving us plenty of reasons to head indoors this month. The V&A East Museum is a standout on the UK gallery circuit, having only opened its doors last month. Now, the unique space is hosting a sprawling exhibition on Black British music. Covering 125 years, the show tracks several eras through immersive sound, telling the story of ‘Black British excellence, struggle, resilience and joy.’
