THE ACADEMY MUSEUM GALA LOOKS ARE SERVING ALL THE PARTY-SEASON INSPO
By Emma Strawbridge, 21 October 2024
You may not have heard of the Academy Museum Gala before (it’s held annually for the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures), and that’s probably because it’s only in its fourth year. But if we know anything about these invite-only, A-list events, it’s this: the red carpet is always going to pop *off*. Everyone from the Kardashian-Jenners to Wicked’s Cynthia Erivo and everyone’s favourite Chicken Shop Date, Amelia Dimoldenberg, were in attendance – here are the style lessons we'll be applying to our party-season wardrobe.

#1: THE KARDASHIAN-JENNER'S LOVE FOR THE BODYCON SILHOUETTE
Whether it’s Kim’s vintage Mugler corset, Kylie’s sheer (also vintage Mugler) dress or Kendall’s cut-out Schiaparelli style, one thing’s for sure – the Kardashian-Jenners love a fitted silhouette. And while the days of bandage dresses are behind us, we're stanning sculpted styles this season.

#2: ADDISON RAE'S LESSON IN LACE
Sheer dressing has been around for a few seasons now, and last night Addison Rae showed us why. The floral lace, the tiered ruffles, the soft silhouette – it's all working. Plus, there’s something very 2000s Lizzie McGuire Movie about the dress' cyan hue that’s making us feel all nostalgic.

#3: MENSY TAILORING
Party season is nothing without a power suit, and we’re taking cues from the men this time around. Paul Mescal took home the Vantage Award at this year’s gala, and he did it in custom Gucci. Boxy double-breasted suits are having a moment and the satin lapels on this one make it 10000% party-proof. And then there’s Jayden Smith’s embellished Louis Vuitton suit ft. cape-like sleeves – need we say more?

#4: STATEMENT DRESSING. IT'S *IN*, JUST ASK LAURA HARRIER AND ANNA SAWAI
We’re all about bold moves this year, and so are the celebs. Sparkle season gets a punk upgrade with Laura Harrier's Ludovic de Saint Sernin dress. On the opposite side of the spectrum, Anna Sawai shows us how to do puffball style for the new season. This is the kind of drama we like.

#5: LUXE TEXTURES
We will always love sparkle season, but these looks from Amelia Dimoldenberg and Eiza González are swaying us towards other textures for our festive looks. Amelia’s velvety Jean Paul Gaultier gown is proving that black is far from boring, while Eiza’s satin number offers a masterclass in wet-look dressing, which is only accentuated by the stunning drapery – no notes.
