TREND

EVERY TREND FROM LAST YEAR I’M STILL WEARING IN 2026

Imagine my surprise when, rooting around in my wardrobe during an annual spring refresh, I discovered last year’s capri pants. Even more surprising? I still wanted to wear them. I’m not saying every trend has a 12-month lifespan, but capri pants are rather controversial – so they weren’t on my 2026 bingo card. All that to say, I’m delighted these infamous cut-offs are enjoying another run. And lots more besides; capris made me realise how many of last year’s trends are still on my wish list.

Polka dots are still on the menu this summer.

Whether it’s playful polka dots or the demure 90s minimalism recently revived by our Carolyn Bessette fixation, 2025 is proving to be quite the timeless archive. So, keep scrolling if you’re looking for new ways to wear old pieces – or just want some assurance that your next purchase will stand the test of time.

First, to the trend that inspired this list. Capri pants raised brows when they emerged on last year’s runways, but those that indulged never looked back. As summer veers around the corner, it seems lots of us are returning to these unexpected trousers. And it makes sense. From tailored cuts to leggings, capris are a warm-weather staple. They work in formal settings, on holiday excursions, and as a delightful intervention into your everyday basics. Pair with kitten heel mules and live your inner-city It-girl dreams, or swap in ballet flats for a classic vintage look.

2025 was big on print, but dots came out on top. This year, the sweet pattern prevails, covering everything from tracksuits to bags and sunglasses. It’s an effortless way to inject some fun into your wardrobe – and depending on colour palette, they can even lean neutral. If you’re still apprehensive about all-out polka dots, consider a spotty accessory to get you started.

90s MINIMALISM

The Olsen twins, pre-Goop Gwyneth, Rachel Green – there are countless icons who made 90s minimalism a timeless trend. But 2025 saw a particularly fervent infatuation with monochrome basics, and 2026 has picked up the gauntlet thanks to one woman: Carolyn Bessette. Even if you haven’t watched Love Story – the series documenting her relationship with JFK Jr. – you’ll have seen the endless recreations of her legendary outfits. Think tortoiseshell accessories, black loafers and the perfect denim jean. The best part? They’re as easy to style as they are on the eye.

SATIN SCARVES

Technically part of the 90s minimalism family, a silk scarf has proved to be a worthwhile investment since it exploded last summer. These simple squares of fabric can be worn in numerous ways – wrapped around the neck, worn over your head (great for hair-wash day), or styled as a belt. I also love re-wearing these as a top in the height of summer. And if you’re trying to get more creative with colour, the scarf is an easy route in.

FUNKY FOOTWEAR

They say one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. Never was this more relevant than in the context of shoes – specifically 2025’s favourite footwear. The past 12 months have put feet in the front seat, as we all turned our toes to more off-kilter styles. Nike Air Rifts made a comeback, flip-flops were purchased en masse and fisherman sandals frequented local parks. Every one of these trends has persisted into 2026, and my weird and wonderful side couldn’t be happier. After all, if you’re going to take a fashion risk, why not start at the bottom?
