It’s cold! In the northern hemisphere, at least. Bar a few middle-of-the-road days, the temperature has officially dropped – and so have our autumn wishlists. Besides the usual aesthetic concerns (our hearts are set on anything sparkly and chocolate brown for party season), at this time of year, focus shifts to investment pieces and versatile styles that'll slot seamlessly into your everyday wardrobe. In that vein, we asked Senior Stylist Charis Gray to share the items she’ll be investing in over the coming months. #1: A FAUX-FUR COAT

‘Everyone needs some faux fur to take them into the winter months,’ says Charis. ‘It’s the perfect way to elevate a casual ‘fit and great for autumn nights out, too.’ If you’ve been feeling a little flummoxed on the fashion front lately, this Monki coat is sure to revive your joie de vivre – and the cropped length makes it easy to wear on a string of occasions. André Leon Talley once said his eyes were ‘starving for beauty.’ If only he’d seen this suede jacket. Sticking with the season’s hunger for chocolate, this Harrington bomber is cut from real suede and has a rich tone that screams luxe. ‘It's perfect for throwing on in transitional months,’ – Charis affirms that the suede jacket is AW25's most coveted essential. And we must say, our appetites are whetted.
#3: BARREL-LEG JEANS

Besides the winter arc, another curved staple of the colder season is a barrel-leg jean. This dark pair serve a striking silhouette that balances more tailored shirts and jackets (which are also hot trends this autumn). ‘This is THE jean fit of the season,’ says Charis, ‘and this two-tone pair would go perfectly with your transitional knits or a simple shirt.’ Finish things off with a sleek pointed boot, and things go from comfy-casual to ‘come into my office’ in seconds. It wouldn’t be transitional season without a little texture. And 2025 is all about lace. Lace skirts, lace dresses, even a lace-trimmed satin short (if you’re braving the forecast). But besides the usual boots and trainers, finding a versatile pair of transitional shoes can be a challenge. ‘Animal print is my go-to for elevating a ‘fit, and these leopard-print loafers will make you look fashion-forward and keep you comfortable,’ says Charis. Combining the best tones of the season, we’d argue this wild pattern is a veritable neutral. You’ll be surprised how much wear you get out of them.
