NYLON TRACK JACKETS AND SATIN SHORTS ARE SUMMER’S POWER PAIRING

A new fashion power couple is in town this summer, and we’re not talking about Harry Styles and Zoë Kravitz. Instead, we’re talking about the sporty meets ultra-feminine look that’s been seen on everyone from your favourite celebs to your cool East London-based best friend: nylon track jackets and satin shorts.

But why is this (very specific) styling duo so popular right now? We first saw the look in September last year, when Hailey Bieber wore her take at the YSL SS26 show. And we’ve been obsessed ever since. The truth is it’s a perfect formula for a British summer. The satin shorts feel a little more dressed up – perfect for bank holidays and weekend plans – while the track jacket adds edge, as well as being a practical layer for when the sun goes down. Here’s the formula and how we’ll be styling the look all summer long.

#1: THE SHORTS

Let’s start from the bottom up with the shorts. Summer 2026 has rendered pastels the palette to pick from, so consider butter yellows, mint greens and soft blues when you're planning your look. Opt for micro styles or something a little more longline. Really, you could even choose a skirt if that's more your vibe. The main thing to keep the same is the texture, because the mix of satin and sporty nylon is what makes this look pop.

#2: THE JACKET

As previously mentioned, there's a compelling case for lightweight layers in summer anyway, it just so happens that now the windbreaker is considered cool. No surprise really, when hiking style is on the up. The nylon track jacket perfectly balances the smart-casual feel against the satin shorts and heels, creating an oversized top half that feels equal parts relaxed and seasonal. You can also swap a stiletto for a kitten heel, or pop in some prep via loafers. Day-to-day errands would benefit from ballet flats, trainers, or the fashionable fusion of both: sneakerinas.
