STYLING ONE LEATHER JACKET THREE WAYS

There are few layers as reliable, versatile or as long-lasting as a leather jacket. Worn by every pop-culture figure and stylish person you could possibly think of, plus a few extra, it has an appeal that reaches far beyond time and trends. You could wear one with just about anything. But when there’s this much styling potential, where do you start? We have some ideas.

#1: DRESS IT UP WITH A SHIRT AND TIE
There’s something slyly subversive about smartening up a leather Harrington by playing around with traditional tailoring codes. That’s why we’ve styled this one with another suiting classic – pinstripe trousers. This pair is a little looser and more laidback than you might expect, so they navigate the smart-casual divide well.

#2: ADD A DASH OF COLOUR
A jumper under a leather jacket is a one-two layering combination that packs a proper sartorial punch, especially in the right shade. Just think of your jacket as a framing device that draws the eye to what you’ve got on underneath. That could be a Fair Isle or striped jumper, or an interesting colour like cherry red, cerulean or lilac. Your trainers can carry a little colour or contrast too, but make sure the difference isn’t too stark or it’ll pull focus away from where you want it.

#3: USE IT TO GROUND PRINT AND PATTERN

Grounding layers with a leather jacket is always a good idea, whether it's with a print, embroidery or embellishments (or all three). Here, we're dialling into the classic rugby shirt’s preppy heritage with dark-wash jeans and ruched loafers. Wear the jacket open to draw attention to what you're wearing beneath, and don’t forget to pop the shirt's collar over your jacket for a doubled-up effect.
