PREPARE FOR GOOD HAIR DAYS ONLY WITH THESE PRODUCTS

The lead-up to September often makes you think about levelling up your look – and that doesn't always mean your wardrobe. Opting for a new haircut is one of the most transformative things you can do. It can completely alter your vibe, whether you take the plunge on a buzzcut or grow your hair out for a more retro-inspired look. Whatever look you choose this season, we've got the products for it. Scroll for our top five autumn hairstyles – and the products to achieve them.

#1: THE MID-LENGTH MULLET

Thanks to A-listers like Jacob Elordi, the mullet is way less controversial than it once was. But if the classic ‘business in front, party in the back’ look still doesn’t float your boat, this playful, mod-inspired variation might. To nail the look, texture is key. Ruffle a generous amount of texturising powder into your roots for an instant volume boost or spritz some texture spray through instead. Finish with a hairspray to set everything in place while still retaining body and bounce.

Mid-length curls are having a moment – delivering that off-duty, Mediterranean energy we all know and love. The look is defined by loose, uniform-length curls all over the head, resulting in a soft, effortless finish. If you’ve got naturally curly hair, apply a hydrating cream and use a curl-defining brush to tame any frizz. If you’re starting with straight hair, you might need to work a little harder. Work in a curl-activating cream, then gently twirl sections of hair around your finger to create a lock. Gently comb through to loosen the locks and set with a hairspray or a mousse.

Few haircuts are as iconic as the swept-back style, which we’re sure you’ll need for all those upcoming RSVPs. The secret is pomade. Water-based pomades are easier to wash out, but our favourites are wax-based for longer-lasting, shinier results. A little often goes a long way – rub some into your palms and smooth it into your hair (making sure to flatten any flyaways), then comb everything backwards for a super sleek finish.

Buzzcuts have seen all sorts of variations in recent years, including bright-coloured dyes and intricate designs. As the scalp is part of the look, keeping it healthy is more important than ever. If you’re prone to flakes or dandruff, keep an anti-dandruff shampoo in your rotation. You can also lift away tough flakes with an exfoliating scalp treatment (ideally with salicylic acid) or a physical scrub.

#5: DREADLOCKS

If you have type 3 or 4 hair and some extra length to work with, locs are a worthwhile commitment. And with the right products, you’ll look just as fresh as Djed Spence or Jules Koundé in no time. Being that locs are essentially just structures of tangled, knotted hair, they often trap dead skin, shed hair and product buildup inside. At least once a week, make sure to cleanse with a clarifying or detoxing shampoo, and moisturise with a lightweight cream or leave-in conditioner to avoid feeling heavy.
