INSPIRATION AND ADVICE

HERE ARE 3 WAYS TO WEAR A BLACK T-SHIRT THIS SUMMER

Black is a classic for a reason. You might feel the need to add colour to your wardrobe this summer, but we're here to tell you that if you don't want to, you don't need to. It's one of the most versatile colours there is, making it easy to style for any occasion – for any season. If you're still feeling unsure, let us show you three ways to wear black in the form of a classic wardrobe staple – the T-shirt.

#1: A DAY-TO-NIGHT HOLIDAY LOOK

Because of the colour, a black tee sits somewhere between casual and smart – this versatility makes it something of a secret weapon when you’re planning your holiday wardrobe. Choose a slubbed or linen-look style (it’s more summery) and style it with beige or stone shorts – the contrast of black and beige is less harsh than classic black and white. A silver curb-chain bracelet or a signet ring will take you from day to night, as will swapping your trainers out for smart loafers. Steer away from jorts – they're great with a black tee for everyday wear, but might look a bit out of place at a candlelit dinner.

#2: A BLACK TEE WITH A SUIT

When it comes to tailoring, swapping out your shirt for a tee is an advanced play, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do it. The question is: do you go single or double-breasted? Single-breasted suits are an easy choice, and ASOS DESIGN's flexMax™ two-pieces are perfect for all-day events. The tee and double-breasted suit will forever be linked with the 80s (think Miami Vice) or 90s (Armani and Calvin Klein) and it’s up to you to decide which to go with. Personally, we’re 90s fans, which means a loose, louche double-breasted suit in an earthy, neutral shade. Trust us: brown and black can be an unexpectedly great combination. Pick loafers in a slightly darker shade of the latter to break up the look.

#3: ALL-BLACK EVERYTHING

It hard not to love the all-black 'fit. No matter how casual or formal, no matter the shape or silhouette – black is the best when it comes to looking instantly put-together. However, this staple colour tends to take a backseat in the summer months – unjustly so. Black is notoriously not the most efficient in hot weather as it absorbs heat. This can be worked around by wearing light and airy styles with your black tee, like this cotton and linen-blend co-ord. Go without the shirt by day and layer up in the evening when the sun goes down. Finish with a simple chain and sandals or flip-flops.
