STYLE AND CULTURE

ALL THE COOL GUYS ARE WEARING PASTELS

The temperature might be lagging, but spring's appearance means imminent change for your wardrobe. You might be an avid overhauler – keen to reinvent your style as soon as the degrees hit double digits. Perhaps updating your daily rotation fills you with dread. Either way, we're here to help you navigate it. We’ve watched the runways and scoured the streets to decipher exactly which new-season pieces deserve your attention. As it turns out, all the cool guys are wearing… pastels. A touch on the nose, we’ll admit. But colour is making a comeback. It’s time to hit the fun button and brighten your rotation – here's how to wear pastels this spring.

SOFT GREENS

Nothing screams nature like pastel green, making it the perfect tone to ring in spring. A soft shade like this looks great in simple silhouettes like boxy shirts and tees, and the cool undertones are well balanced with warm earthy hues like chocolate brown. To avoid looking like a dentist’s waiting room, we’d recommend styling one green item per look – and if you’re particularly adverse to colour, why not try a pastel green accessory? Your everyday bag deserves a seasonal upgrade, too.

BABY BLUES

Not just the domain of a baby shower, soft blues are perfect for this time of year. Just like a cloudless sky (oh, we can dream), pastel blue pieces are a great mood booster. A blue cotton shirt is a timeless wardrobe staple you’ll always find ways to wear – we’d recommend layering over a plain tee for transitional styling. Pale-wash denim is also enjoying a spring-based renaissance, so consider swapping out your usual jeans for something a little lighter. Not only are they seasonal, but they’ll go with almost anything.

DUSTY PINKS

Where baby blue goes, soft pink surely follows. And before you go all Ross Geller on us, this delicate shade is a great addition to any menswear roster. Like pastel green, this pairs well with grounding browns and beiges, but we’re also loving a pink and red combo for more maximalist dressing. However you style it, this pastel style is a one-way ticket to a head-turning 'fit. It’s also sure to put a smile on your face. What’s not to love?

PASTEL YELLOWS

When it comes to pastel fashion, yellow is a bit of a tricky one. It has a troubled reputation, but forget what you know. This sunny colour is surprisingly flattering if you know how to use it. And it’s just as well, because this season is all about unique style. Anything decidedly left field or uncanny? You’re on the right track. Think bold accessories, unexpected silhouettes and unusual colours. Pastel yellow is a great accent for understated pieces like your go-to black jeans or tailored trousers. Keep things simple by avoiding busy prints, and try a yellow trainer if you fancy walking on sunshine for a change.

LAVENDERS

In the pastel family tree, lavender is the unruly cousin. The one who shows up late to the party but no doubt brings the vibes. If you’re bold enough to play with this colour, it’ll earn you real style points. Fun, playful and perfect for spring, it’s a dopamine hit for your wardrobe. The delicate tone looks great when contrasted by tech-forward, street style designs – think bomber jackets and fleeces. But we’ve also been loving lavender knits. Reach for lightweight styles and pair with simple straight-leg jeans for an easy transitional outfit.
