GOODBYE CHAPPED POUTS! THESE ARE THE BEST LIP BALMS TO TRY THIS SEASON

Autumn is here, which means cold, windy weather and central heating will once again be on the agenda. And all these changes in temperature can wreak havoc with your skin – including your lips. As a self-acclaimed lip balm fanatic (you can never have too many, right?), I'm getting ahead of the game by giving you a run-down of all my favourite lip balms, oils and treatments to save your lips this season.

CLASSIC LIP BALMS

Nuxe reve de miel lip balm| ASOS Style Feed

NUXE Reve de Miel Lip Balm Moisturising Stick, £7.50

There’s a reason I go on holidays to France, and it’s not the food, fashion or weather – it’s the pharmacy brands. A Gallic classic, NUXE's Rêve de Miel stick is probably my favourite no-frills, gets-the-job-done lip balm. It softens and hydrates, it’s not sticky, and it doesn’t demand reapplication every twenty minutes.

Caudalie Lip Balm Moisturising Conditioner| ASOS Style Feed

Caudalie Lip Balm Moisturising Conditioner, £7

Snapping at NUXE's heels in the French pharmacy stakes is Caudalie’s lip balm. It’s a note-perfect all-rounder formulated with shea butter and grape seed oils, so it’s ideal for sensitive skin. The not-so-secret ingredient is grape polyphenols – an antioxidant that helps to protect and preserve the delicate skin around your lips.

SPF LIP BALMS

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Nourishing Lip Balm SPF 20 PA++| ASOS Style Feed

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Lip Balm SPF 20 PA++, £23

Elizabeth Arden’s protective Eight Hour Cream has been been around for almost a century now, and this version is just for your lips. While it has the same ingredients as the OG, there is one vital addition – SPF20. The formula has serious staying power, so just a tiny dab will set you up for hours.

Hello Sunday SPF50 Tinted Lip Balm- The Red One| ASOS Style Feed

Hello Sunday SPF50 Tinted Lip Balm- The Red One, £11

The skin on your lips needs sun protection too, so if you want something more heavy-duty with your lip balm, look to SPF-focused brand, Hello Sunday. This one is beefed up with next-generation SPF50 filters for broad-spectrum UVA and UVB protection, plus hydrating squalene and hyaluronic acid. It has a high-shine finish too.

TINTED LIP BALMS

LANEIGE Glaze Craze Tinted Lip Serum - Cinnamon Sugar| ASOS Style Feed

LANEIGE Glaze Craze Tinted Lip Serum - Cinnamon Sugar, £19

LANEIGE's Glaze Craze calls itself a serum because of all the active skincare ingredients, but there’s a case for categorising it under ‘balm’ too. Polypeptides, pomegrate seed oil and argan ceramides work together to nourish, hydrate and plump your pout. It comes in six sheer colours (each with a corresponding scent: we love Cinnamon Sugar) and has a glossy, glassy finish.

Milk Makeup Balmade Electrolyte Lip Balm - Refresher| ASOS Style Feed

Milk Makeup Balmade Electrolyte Lip Balm - Refresher, £18

If lip balm flavours feel a bit predictable, get yourself onto Milk Makeup’s Balmades – they’re inspired by sports drinks. Like your fave sports drink, they also contain electrolytes like potassium and zinc for added hydration. There aren’t enough neon-pink lip balms around in my opinion, and this shade hits the spot nicely.

LIP OILS

Gisou Honey Infused Lip Oil - Honey Gold| ASOS Style Feed

Gisou Honey Infused Lip Oil - Honey Gold, £24

We love Gisou’s lip oils so much we’ve included the shimmering Glazed Plum shade in this year’s ASOS Advent Calendar. Inspired by honey from the brand’s own bee garden, this sheer Honey Gold version can be worn solo or as an extra dose of nourishment over your lipstick. Crucially, it’s not sticky – always a concern if you can’t go a half hour without getting hair glued to your lips (and yes, I am speaking from painful experience).

Clinique Pop Lip + Cheek Oil - Black Honey| ASOS Style Feed

Clinique Pop Lip + Cheek Oil - Black Honey, £24

If you’re into Y2K-accurate beauty looks, you probably already have Clinque’s Black Honey lipstick in your possession – the shade had a generation in a chokehold in the 00s. This lip oil version can also be applied to cheeks for a glossy flush. It looks deceptively dark in the bottle but sheers out to a universally flattering, your-lips-but-better shade.

LIP TREATMENTS

LANEIGE Lip Sleeping Mask - Berry| ASOS Style Feed

LANEIGE Lip Sleeping Mask - Berry, £21

It’s indicative of LANEIGE's power that not one but two of its products have made this list. The brand's Lip Sleeping Mask stands up to the not-inconsiderable hype thanks to the mix of antioxidants and vitamin C, plus all the hydrating and nourishing ingredients. While it’s intended for overnight use, you can also apply a thin layer as prep before matte lipstick or as a balm on its own.

Dr.Reju-All Advanced PDRN Rejuvenating Lip Serum | ASOS Style Feed

Dr.Reju-All Advanced PDRN Rejuvenating Lip Serum (10ml), £14

If, like me, you spend a considerable amount of time doomscrolling skincare videos, you’ll know all about PDRN. The anti-inflammatory, pro-healing, pro-hydration ingredient is the star of Dr Reju’s lip serum, but it’s also formulated with AHAs and lactic acid for gentle exfoliation.

HONOURABLE MENTION

KAYALI Yum Pistachio Lip Balm| ASOS Style Feed

KAYALI Yum Pistachio Lip Balm 15g, £23

If you ask me, there aren’t enough fragrance-led lip balms out there, but KAYALI is doing its bit to address the imbalance. This one is in the perfume brand’s Pistachio Gelato family, with notes of hazelnut, cotton candy, whipped cream and – of course – pistachio ice cream. Yum.
