HEAR US OUT – SEQUINS SHOULD BE WORN EVERY DAY

It’s a well-known fact that sequins are a festive staple. But sparkles are for life, not just for Christmas. We’re not suggesting all-out glitz 365 days of the year, but there’s no bad time for a subtle sequin. And as summer fast approaches, it’s worth exploring new ways to revive your everyday wardrobe beyond the season’s usual shifts. Linen is great, mesh is a given – but sparkle? Nothing turns heads and quickens hearts quite like it.

ARRANGE embellished disc sequin square neck full skirt midi dress, £210

Just picture a sequin dress in the afternoon sunlight or a glistening skirt breathing life into a plain white tee. Pair the polished with the casual and the bold with the basic. They key to summer sparkle is grounding it with wearable pieces. To get you started, we’ve pulled our favourite sequin pieces for summer and the looks we’d build around them.

THE SEQUIN MINI SKIRT

You might think a sparkly cropped skirt only works for a night out, but it’s easy to make this party favourite palatable for daytime plans. Just balance the mini silhouette with an oversized top, whether that's heavyweight knits in contrasting colours (great for transitional weather) or long-sleeve T-shirts for minimal vs maximal styling. Finish with socks and loafers for a preppy spin. Trainers can work too, but beware: you might look like you’re headed to Glastonbury.

THE SEQUIN MIDI SKIRT

It may have more surface area, and thus more sparkle, but the midi skirt is arguably more wearable than a mini. It leans more formal, for starters. Test it out at dinners, dates and even your desk. And if you fancy throwing one on for your daily errands, just pair with a casual sweatshirt and low-profile trainers. Vintage-style footwear in a soft fabric like suede or satin makes a nice partner for your shimmery statement, rooting everything in a feminine yet fuss-free look.

THE SEQUIN TOP

Sheer tops are a darling of the summer season, and great for showing a little more skin without sacrificing go-to silhouettes. Sequins are a natural extension of barely there pieces, especially when cut in neutral tones. We love this sparkling cami balanced with black oversized tailoring and a kitten heel. With the blazer buttoned it’ll work for the office, and still pack a punch at the bar. Just slip off the blazer and accept the compliments.

THE SEQUIN DRESS

Sequin dresses are top dog when it comes to sparkly clothing. You’re most likely to wear this statement-maker at a special event – say, a wedding or milestone birthday. These summer soirees are often dominated by florals, which makes a glittering dress feel all the more special. Balance the panache with an understated cut like a camisole slip dress, and reach for seasonal shades (soft pastels are everywhere right now) to compliment your sunny surrounds.
