HERE ARE 20 DRESSES I’D WEAR TO A SPRING WEDDING

Weddings are one of few occasions that invite us to get completely dressed up. They’re also a rare excuse to gather all your friends, acquaintances and (in some cases) bygone relationships in one place – so you want to look good. Yes, the ceremony is all about the happy couple, but deep down every wedding guest wants to make an impression. With spring in full swing and summer on the horizon, wedding prep has kicked off in earnest. So, if you’ve got a few invites on your hands, now’s the time to start thinking about your spring wedding-guest dress.

WHERE TO START

I’ve always found nuptials a tricky one to dress for. You’ve got to balance stringent dress codes with personal preference, not to mention weather and venue contingencies. But despite a reputation for limiting our sartorial aspirations, weddings can provide plenty of creative real estate. Take a black-tie theme, for example. You might be confined to a floor-length gown, but that shouldn’t stop you from branching out where colour and texture are concerned. In an effort to cover all bases, I’ve trawled through countless spring dresses for weddings to find the perfect look for every kind of wedding. If you’re angling for best-dressed status, keep scrolling for my top spring wedding-guest outfits.

LONG WEDDING-GUEST DRESSES

A cascading gown is most traditional for a wedding. These work whether you’re a bridesmaid or a plus-one, and thanks to elongated proportions they always tend to look elevated. Most of us are deprived of excuses to whip out a floor-length dress, so this is usually the preferable choice. But the rest is up to you. From lace-trimmed styles to floral embroidery, the longer the gown, the bigger the canvas.

SHORT WEDDING-GUEST DRESSES

With weddings moving into more modern territory thanks to low-profile ceremonies, inner-city parties and pub receptions, the fashions are shifting too. Short dresses feel fresh, fun and they’re far more practical for urban settings. If your bride-to-be is known for letting her hair down, a mini silhouette will be more than capable of keeping up on the dance floor. And these dresses also work well for the infamous beach wedding (with no chance of damp sand weighing you down).

SATIN WEDDING-GUEST DRESSES

Spring invites softer palettes and lighter fabrications, putting a satin dress in the spotlight. These styles are all about quality and craftsmanship – focus on heavyweight styles that fall off the body like water. They’ll look gorgeous in the sunlight and glisten on the dancefloor. Most importantly, they’re comfortable. So you can eat, drink and be merry without any wardrobe woes.

DRAPED WEDDING-GUEST DRESSES

2026 has seen a resurgence of draped styles, be it dresses, blouses or jackets. The complex architectural designs showcased by Dior and Matières Fécales at Paris Fashion Week prove this penchant for billowing fabric isn’t budging. So it’s a good time to invest in a draped dress – and even better if you’re headed for a wedding. Think capes, neck scarves and unique waistlines. These pieces are classic with a twist, and sure to impress your fellow partygoers.
