STYLING
EASE INTO HIKING SEASON WITH THESE THREE LOOKS
By Ayis Stephen-Diver, 3 May 2025
Whether you’ve tried your hand at the Seven Sisters cliffs or consider the walk to your nearest coffee shop a massive trek, we can all learn something from hiking enthusiasts: outdoorsy style always looks good at the weekend. It’s even got its own corner of the fashion landscape – gorpcore. It had its big break a few years ago, but icons of the nature-infused aesthetic including techy trainers and windbreakers are still relevant for SS25. If you’re not ready to fully submerge yourself into gorpcore just yet, then at least dip your toes in with these three looks.
#1: THE SUMMER HIKER

The bad news: entering ‘gorpcore’ into a search engine will probably only result in cold-weather ‘fits. The good news: adapting the look for higher climes is easy. Let your skin breathe in sporty shorts and a bodysuit that doubles as a swimsuit on the chance that you encounter a lake. A lightweight backpack with tons of compartments is key for an efficient day of hiking, but so are your shoes. We’re pushing the Merrell Hydro Moc agenda *hard* – they’re just so comfy and hit the gorpy bullseye.

#2: THE CASUAL COMMUTER

The office commute can be tedious – especially in the heat – so add some adventure into the daily grind with gorpcore elements. Getting your steps in requires some top-quality footwear, and there’s no better brand than the hiking MVP, Salomon. These pink-and-white trainers styled with a royal blue dress? A valuable lesson in colour theory. Keep your accessories on the smarter side by choosing minimalist bags and sheer socks all season.

#3: THE OUTFIT REPEATER

The art of outfit repeating begins with a versatile ‘fit... which in turn begins with versatile pieces. Whether you’re hiking, commuting, shopping or just soaking up the sun in the park, do it in parachute trousers – an outdoorsy staple – and a basic tank top. Whilst we’re spotlighting a pair of Salomons, this ‘fit would look just as good in sandals like Birkenstocks. Top it off with a touch of camo – because it’s the print that goes with everything.
