HOW WE'RE CELEBRATING PRIDE MONTH

June 1969, Stormé DeLarverie (a Black lesbian), Marsha P. Johnson (a Black trans woman) and Sylvia Rivera (a Latinx trans woman) sparked the Stonewall uprising in New York City, one of the most pivotal moments in history for the gay rights movement. Pride Month would not exist without Black queer, trans and non-binary folks. Fact. Today, in June 2020, we are #ProudTogether and want to celebrate the power of togetherness throughout the rainbow. This week and beyond, we will be amplifying the voices of LGBTIQ+ icons both past and present, as we continue to stand in solidarity with ALL members of the Black community.

Over the coming weeks, there’ll be lots of inspiring and uplifting content from a kaleidoscopic cast of the best LGBTIQ+ activists, writers, performers and artists (plus everything in-between), who will be sharing their amazing skills across our platforms. There’s our educational #LearnTogether series on TikTok; a Variety Show on Instagram Live on Thursday at 8pm BST (hosted by Sex Education writer Mawaan Rizwan); and a drag aerobics class on Instagram TV – plus a whole lot more! (No, seriously – loads.)

Of course, Pride Month is also about supporting the LGBTIQ+ community and shining a spotlight on the issues that they face day-to-day. And we know it’s important to do this throughout the year, not just for one month.

Here at ASOS, we work with the charity Stonewall, which provides us with training and advice on how to make our workplace more LGBTIQ+-inclusive. For more info on what it does, and to support its work, check it out here. In addition, back in May, we dropped our fourth collab with another brilliant LGBTIQ+ charity, GLAAD. Shop the collection here, and keep an eye out in July for the next one, so you can support a good cause (100% of the profits go to GLAAD), and spruce up your look with a serious dose of colour for summer. Ideal.
