INSPIRATION AND ADVICE

EVERYTHING WE'D PACK FOR A CITY BREAK

Even the most well-seasoned traveller occasionally gets stuck with packing, and the city break brings a unique set of dilemmas. Whether it's not packing the right shoes or completely botching the top-to-trousers ratio... it happens to the best of us. But don’t worry, we’ve got you covered – meet the top five items to add to your packing list.

#1: A BAG

Rains 14200 unisex waterproof weekend duffel bag in khaki, £79

At the risk of stating the obvious, a bag is the best place to start. Whether you’re a last-minute packer or a meticulous planner, there’s no use in curating the perfect carry-on if you can’t actually carry it. Enter the weekend bag. It's large enough to carry a long weekend's worth of gear and small enough to slide neatly into those carry-on checkers at the departure gates. RAINS' version is waterproof, durable, and uber-minimal – could it be the best investment you’ll make all year? Well, yes. When you’re not hitting the departure lounge, it also makes a great gym bag.

#2: SHOES (COMFY ONES)

Nike Waffle Racer trainers in black and white, £79.99

If there’s one thing city breaks are known for, it’s walking – and plenty of it. That 20k+ step count might look great on your health app, but your feet won’t thank you for coming unprepared. Solid trainers are your best bet for all-day exploring. Opt for black, navy or brown if you fancy looking well-turned-out, and low-slung styles – like these Nike Waffle Racers – are classics you can quickly dress up or down.

#3: A STRONG SET OF SHADES

ASOS DESIGN metal aviator sunglasses in gold frame with brown lens, £16

Say it with us: sunglasses are a must-have. Even if the weather app looks dubious, who wouldn't want to look broody and mysterious in a European coffee shop? This season, we're into retro aviator or D-frame styles, and these metal numbers combine both options with a 70s twist.

#4: A REALLY GREAT JACKET

ASOS COLLECTIVE relaxed fit real suede trucker jacket in tan, £250

Minimal jackets without too many embellishments – particularly in suede or leather – keep winning on 2026’s style roster, so if you want to elevate a capsule wardrobe, look no further. Pair yours with anything from tees to button-downs, and you’ve got that je ne sais quoi down pat. This brown suede style is warm but not bulky, luxe but not overstated. If you couldn't tell, the reasons to pack it are endless.

#5: A BASEBALL CAP

This 4505 cap is a goes-with-everything staple and an easy way to throw colour at a look when you’re light on space.
