5 OF SHIA LABEOUF'S FINEST 'FITS
By Sam Higgins, 11 June 2017
Over the years, we’ve seen Shia LaBeouf grow and change as an actor and general human being. We’ve seen him as a youngster in Even Stevens; seen a mullet, a shaven head and a rugged beard; witnessed motivational speeches; watched him enjoy/endure his own movies and even marvelled at his interpretive dance routines. But, through all this eccentricity, the one thing that’s remained consistent is his style. So, to celebrate Shia’s 31st birthday, we’ve taken a look at the normcore icon’s five finest sartorial efforts.
Now, if there was ever a picture to epitomise Shia LaBeouf’s style, this is it. You’d expect his lackadaisical approach to dressing to work against him but, uniquely, it actually seems to inspire even better coordinated get-ups from the actor. There’s no designer labels, just all of the signature Shia traits – a fleecy freebie jumper, grey joggers, socks tucked into socks and Nike Cortez – combined to create an impressive monochromatic ‘fit.
Shia LaBlue tee
We’re not sure how you acquire a T-shirt advertising a new apartment block in Minnesota or why these T-shirts even exist. Do they come free with the flat, or can you buy them? Either way, we’re glad they're a thing, because one is often placed at the core of some solid Shia steez. Although it’s been a regular feature alongside a pair of comfy joggers, here the actor proves he has some real sartorial skills, pairing the souvenir top with some smart trousers – rolled at the cuffs – before completing the tonal getup with a pair of nicely worn-in white Converse.
Again, we’re not sure whether Canterbury Avenue School has extra-large, boxy sweatshirts as their uniform (if so, we’re on the next plane over there) or Shia’s somehow blagged himself another brilliant souvenir jumper. Most probably the latter but, regardless, the oversized navy sweat brings a relaxed, retro feel when layered over a white tee and coupled with some slim jeans in a lighter bluey hue. And if you thought Shia’s ultra-normcore style was quite eccentric, take a look at what the yin to his yang is wearing on her feet and you’ll quickly realise that, sometimes, less is more.
Shorts! Just when you thought you’d sussed out Shia’s style, he shows you up once again. Sure, his vibrant orange charity-run tee may be another freebie (that’s a given) but when the sun comes out the joggers are left at home and the shorts are on, showing off his otherwise-hidden thigh tattoos. Coffee in one hand, fianceé on the other, his favourite black cap on his head – the sunshine makes for a happy and stylish Shia.
Shia brilliant layering
‘Even though it looks haphazard, it’s actually very thought through’, is how Shia describes his sartorial choices. The winter months prove that, offering our most politically-engaged style player the chance to piece together every element of his normcore style into one fine ‘fit. Take it from us, it’s not easy curating a cold-weather kit of navy hoodie, checkered shacket, boxy denim jacket and brown cuffed trousers – but Shia tackles it with ease. With clever layering, a pair of classic Cortez and a strong, bobble beanie, he achieves a get-up fit for the elements that doesn’t slack on signature style.
