FIVE CHANCE THE RAPPER 'FITS

Chance The Rapper is rewriting the rap rulebook. The now-24-year-old has worked with everyone from James Blake to Justin Bieber, has a Kanye album credit and has even designed his own range of New Era White Sox hats, yet he chooses to remain unsigned and still gives all his music away for free. The Chicago rapper's psychedelic, jazz-infused flow is the freshest thing in hip-hop and his sartorial experiments aren’t bad either. After the critical success of his third solo mixtape and to mark his 24th birthday, we take a look at what Lil Chano from 79th has been wearing on his acid reign.

ObamaCool

Can you wear a piece of political propaganda and look cool? Yes you can, if you’re Chance The Rapper. When your dad is boys with Barack Obama, your political allegiances are pretty non-negotiable so you may as well make the most of the merch. With Obama on his way out of The White House, this sweatshirt already carries vintage cachet and, teamed with a pair of cuffed camel chinos and colourful kicks, it’s a look we’re voting onto our wish list.

College dropout

The first album Chancellor Bennett bought was Kanye West’s College Dropout and it was while he was suspended from school that he started writing his first mixtape 10 Day. The college experience influences both Chance’s music and merch, so naturally he kitted his whole crew out with these bespoke Lettermans for his Social Experiment tour. What a guy.

Ultralight aztec

Here’s Chance in his best blue ensemble for the first performance of Ultralight Beam on SNL. We’re not exactly sure what Kanye’s concept was here, but we haven’t seen this much denim and tie-dye on stage since the 90s. Among a chorus of throwback ‘fits is young Chano, keeping things slightly more understated in a blue Aztec-inspired print jumper, straight-leg jeans, white Yeezys and his signature cap.

Dungaree OG

This is a guy who can make a song sampling the Arthur theme tune cool, so why wouldn’t he make dungarees look great? We wouldn’t recommend leaving your top at home, but we’ll forgive him for taking the chance (sorry) to show off his abs.

All-grey Grammys gear

When you’re arriving at your first Grammys as an unsigned artist who’s about to make history with the first award-winning, streaming-only release, you want an outfit to match your rightful swagger. That’s exactly what Chance did, tackling the smart dress code masterfully, curating an all-grey getup that boasted straight-leg trews, a fitted, collared jacket and some sartorial synchronicity between his brogues and signature snapback. His hat may say ‘3’, but Chance, you’re being hard on yourself – we’d give this outfit a 9-and-a-half, at least.
