SUITS TO WEAR FOR A WEDDING ABROAD

Wherever you're travelling for a wedding this year, you’ve got to pass the destination wedding vibe check. Look at it like a science experiment – with variables like sand, heat, a dress code and endless photo ops, you need to cover all your bases. So, whether you’re a guest or a groomsman, we present to you these wedding suits for men ft. three-piece suits, summer palettes, wedding ties, dancefloor-ready shoes and finishing touches that'll look 10/10 on a balmy backdrop. Suit up.

LINEN SUITS

Weather forecast: hot. Destinations like Portugal, Bangkok and Marrakech are beautiful, but well-known for their 40-degree summers, so pack a linen suit to keep you as cool as possible. Breathable, effortless and ideal for doing more than just posing, it’s a no-brainer for a wedding abroad. Keep it extra-cool with a short-sleeve shirt, statement sunnies and a suede shoe.

BEACH-WEDDING SUITS

A ceremony on a stretch of sand may seem daunting, but with the right smart-casual ratio you’ll have the time of your life. Our tried-and-tested formula: an oversized blazer, baggy suit trousers and a slim-fit tee. Not only do you get to enjoy the ocean breeze, but you can dial the look up or down by switching the tee for a shirt or loafers for sandals.

BLUE SUITS

The navy wedding suit’s got a reputation for being failproof, but it doesn't scream *summer* – in case you missed it, we’re en route to Ibiza! Complement that IG-ready sunset with pastel blues instead of darker tones. Got a stricter dress code? Head back to the blue base camp and pair navy trousers with a pastel shirt for the best of both worlds. Top tip: blue suits look *chefs kiss* with floral tiesTimothée Chalamet’s even cosigned the look.

GREY SUITS

Nothing’s more satisfying than a classic, timeless grey – and there are so many ways to style it. Colour drench your separates – a dove grey blazer, icy grey waistcoat, and charcoal grey trousers add dimension and prevent you from looking like an investment banker on their lunch break. Heritage prints like herringbone and subtle pinstripes will separate you from the rest. Style your two or three-piece pick with a pink or red tie and boutonnière – that teeny tiny bouquet on the lapel – and prepare to wow.

STATEMENT SUITS

Upstaging the groom is a no-go, but who said you can’t tweak a detail here or play with colours and prints there? Toss out the traditional tuxedo for something more standout, like a floral jacquard suit with a black bowtie. You could opt for a different tone completely – because there’s nothing like celebrating love in a dusty-pink set – or go the Colman Domingo route and layer using 70s details. We’re very into his use of cropped blazers, exaggerated collars and super-rich colours.

FINISHING TOUCHES

Pocket squares and wedding ties are non-negotiable, but you can’t do a destination wedding without sunnies on hand – don’t be that one person squinting in the photos. Plus, add unmatched levels of flair to your look with different styles – think classic aviators, round glasses or the Ray-Ban clubmaster. If we were you, we’d pack a few: one for the big day and one for the pre-flight-home pool sesh.

THE SHOES TO KNOW

Don’t forget the basics, AKA shoes. If you’re already envisioning typical smart shoes like loafers and brogues, at least don’t subscribe to the black penny pairs. Consider chunky loafers, gold or silver hardware, and browns or metallic colourways. For those picturesque Mediterranean weddings, boat shoes are just as valid. And in tropical climes, take flip flops along for the ride.
