UNRAVELLING OLIVIA RODRIGO'S BEST LOOKS TO DATE

Hear that? Sounds like our summer soundtrack is about to arrive. That’s right, Olivia Rodrigo's third studio album – You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love – drops on 12 June. And as fans of catchy love songs tinged with melancholy, we are very excited. Ahead of the new release, we’re taking a stroll down memory lane and pulling some of the singer's best looks out of the archives. So, if you were looking for an excuse to reinvent yourself this season, Olivia has a few looks worth recreating – think polka dots, graphic tees and, of course, that babydoll dress.

There’s absolutely no way we could start an article on Olivia's style without mentioning that babydoll dress. Worn earlier this year at a concert in Barcelona, her floral micro-mini has launched a thousand hot takes (and similar styles). It’s typical of Rodrigo’s aesthetic – half unashamedly feminine, half an homage to female musicians from the 90s. More importantly, it’s easy (and fun!) to replicate. Go for easy breezy styles in faded floral patterns and underpin yours with micro shorts for extra coverage.

Polka dots are the pattern of the summer, and Olivia’s put her typically retro twist on them with a vintage 60s shirt dress. She’s layered a bright-green tank top over for contrast, but you could go with any vibrant colour you like. White knee socks and black court shoes pull everything together making it feel elevated, preppy and considered.

Olivia’s gown for the 67th Grammy Awards was peak vintage Versace (Spring 2000, to be precise). It’s not your typical little black dress – it's a more gutsy choice thanks to the slinky ruching and strategic cutouts. Take cues from the singer and go minimal with your styling – a tennis bracelet and a shiny blowout will ensure the dress grabs all the attention.

Clashing patterns and textures shouldn’t work, but on noted plaid-lover Olivia they do. The magic solution? Making sure the same colour runs through everything. In the case of her 2022 Glasto ‘fit, it’s purple (her signature colour across her SOUR and GUTS albums). The whole look is Chopova Lowena, from the handmade arm warmers to the checked bikini top, but you can steal her style with our picks. Finish it off with riot grrrl-esque fishnets and statement necklaces.

A wisely-chosen band tee is a direct line to a good ‘fit – so do things in Olivia Rodrigo-style. Here, her tee is a vintage 80s Pat Benetar number – for those not in the know about Pat, stream Love is a Battlefield and thank me later. Yours doesn’t need to be either vintage or a tribute to a legendary guitar goddess (though it’s always helpful). Just pick your personal fave and style with a miniskirt and sunglasses.

This jean-and-a-tee combo is a perfect example of an elevated casual look. The tee is simple and shrunken – Olivia’s has an 00s-inspired popcorn texture but you can always go for a stretchy shirred or ribbed finish. The indigo jeans have a slick flared silhouette, and they pair perfectly with platform heels peeking out from below the hem.
