THE PARIS FASHION GIRLS ARE HAVING FUN

Tasked with calling out a stylish city, I was hesitant to land on Paris. It felt a bit too easy. The French capital is often referred to as the world’s fashion capital – and while the timeless ease of a Parisian wardrobe will always delight, I felt for all the other (often forgotten) destinations that have just as much to offer sartorially. Alas – after a little research, it seems you really can’t beat Paris.

The French fashion girlies have been rolling out their usual understated charm with a fresh spin. Bold colours, unique details, unusual silhouettes and skillful layering have taken the classic Parisian look in a very 2026 direction. And as the trend cycle encourages us to embrace more ‘individual’ style, we can all look to Paris for a deft ‘how-to’. If you’re in need of inspiration ahead of summer, these standout looks from the Parisian streets are required reading.

GRUNGY DENIM

Like the tin of beans in the back of your cupboard, a great pair of jeans will never expire. Denim is subsequently revived and reinvented every season, and this 70s-inspired outfit suggests we’re heading in a grungy direction. The oversized jeans and shirt are balanced with a shrunken denim waistcoat, while the ankle-length trousers prevent a ‘drowned in fabric’ look. Finished with long, messy hair and a hefty bowling bag, this wouldn’t look out of place at Woodstock – and yet, thanks to the methodically layered silhouettes, there’s still something elegant about it.

BAKER BOY HATS

I won’t lie – past me couldn’t have fathomed referring to baker boy hats in a positive context. But that was the me of a few months ago; the me who hadn’t seen how great these controversial head-toppers can look in the right hands. Take this relaxed ensemble, which sandwiches a classic black pea jacket and white T-shirt between two slices of denim. File this under Parisian style in the dictionary. It’s the blueprint for how to make neutral minimalism feel fresh. The details may be simple – brown leather bag, blue denim jean, white cotton tee – but thanks to unexpected silhouettes, the formula is fun and firmly on my mood board.

SUEDE MEETS TAILORING

Another masterstroke in sizing, this outfit combines similar shapes to the previous look. A cropped jacket is balanced by relaxed oversized trousers and a simple white tee. But the really great thing about this is the texture. Soft brown suede is paired with sharp tailored cotton. Crisp elevated structure is warmed by rich and earthy substance. It’s a classic case of opposites attract, and proof that rules are made to be broken.

POPS OF COLOUR

Unexpected red theory should be renamed ‘everything red theory’, because I can’t get enough of it. This bold tomato hue never had a major place in my wardrobe, but thanks to nifty styling it’s become a go-to. Just a slice of rouge here and a dash of tomato there – and your everyday basics are revitalised like a sauce with some extra seasoning.

Another way to redefine understated Parisian style is by showing more skin. This sheer look is head-to-toe grace, turning the classic shirt and pencil skirt on their heads. By opting for a timeless, trending shade like chocolate brown, the mesh fabric still feels rich and elevated. Plus, with grounding black accessories, something modern and daring is achieved without disregarding familiar formulas.
