THE V-NECK TOP IS COMING FOR YOUR WARDROBE

If you were in any doubt about Y2K’s hold on us right now, let us point you towards the return of the V-neck top. The late 90s-early 00s were prime time for the V-neck: All Saints girls were pairing theirs with baggy cargo pants on Top of the Pops, while Buffy the Vampire Slayer's Sarah Michelle Gellar was styling hers with a miniskirt and knee-high boots. Fast forward to 2026, and the V-neck feels fresher than ever. Whether you’re looking for a party-ready number or something casual for the weekend, we’ve got a top for every occasion. Here are some of our faves.

V-NECK TOPS

V-neck tops are rooted in menswear – the notched neckline was originally designed for T-shirts so they wouldn’t show under the collar of work shirts. Gradually though, the V-neck has evolved past its simple roots, and today you’ll find them everywhere from tees to party tops. And these? These are some of the latest drops in bold stripes and in the trending colour everyone still loves: chocolate brown.

V-NECK VESTS

You can’t get more 00s-coded than a V-neck vest – if you look at any girlband shoot from the decade, there’s an excellent chance at least one member is sporting one of these. For a true era-appropriate look, get a cinched silhouette and balance it with low-slung wide-leg jeans. The plunge neckline really shines on a vest, so make sure to prep your skin with a hydrating lotion and finish with SPF.

V-NECK WHITE TANKS

Classic tank tops usually have a scooped U shape – think Carolyn Bessette’s effortless versions on Love Story. To play into that look while putting your own spin on it, go for a V-neck tank. It’ll look just as clean and minimal, and is equally easy to style. We like these ribbed or buttoned versions with slip skirts.

V-NECK T-SHIRTS

The V-neck T-shirt is whatever you want it to be. Subtle, blink-and-you’ll-miss-them V’s can be seen on American football-inspired tees – this Topshop one is a refined spin on the shape. Deep V T-shirts in loose or oversized fits are fun to play with, because you can style them off one shoulder. And plunge tees like Fashionkilla’s have the highest impact, where the neckline is trimmed with delicate lace.

V-NECK GOING OUT TOPS

You can’t get more Y2K than point-toe heels, jeans and a nice going-out top, so channel Jennifer Lopez’s infamous Versace dress (the world’s first ‘break the internet’ moment) with an ultra-low V-neck number. Secure it with double-sided fashion tape and you’re ready for the dancefloor. If a higher neckline is more your thing, sparkly or sequinned tops will command as much attention.
