She might be the queen of wellness now, but back in the early 00s Gwyneth Paltrow was heading up Hollywood. Her red-carpet looks were so iconic that Miss Goop has since been immortalised in the 90s style hall of fame – an honour credited largely to the incredible designers who dressed her. Among them, of course, was Valentino – the mastermind behind this black slip dress. Complete with lace embellishments and timely polka dots, this look proves that when it comes to great trends, what goes around comes around.

J-Lo is no stranger to a viral red-carpet moment – but if we had to pick one, this mint Valentino gown would be up there. The cape design was a signature for the designer in the early 00s, and was later reignited by Valentino super-fan Kim Kardashian. With buttery-soft fabric, elegant embroidery and a soft pastel green (with matching eyeshadow, of course), this look would flatter whoever wore it. But we must admit the gown was made for Miss Lopez. It’s stunning in every sense.

We’re starting to suspect Valentino predicted every 2026 style trend. From Jennifer’s pastel drapery to bold tomato red, this look – worn by Scarlett Johansson at the 2006 Golden Globes – brings us right up to speed with current colour palettes. Valentino’s reliance on simple, quality details always pays off. And has there ever been a more iconic duo than blonde bombshell hair and a classic rouge gown? We doubt it.

Queen Kate took a leaf out of J-Lo’s earlier style file with this minty gown – finished with a stunning draped back and pleated bustier. The satin is cut to perfection, leaving not a hair out of place or a crinkle on show. Proof that understated style can leave a huge impact – this one is Old Hollywood glamour to a T.

The silhouettes may have shifted over the years, but Valentino’s penchant for drama has always remained. Case in point, this black look from last year’s Met Gala. The sculptural skirt is expertly balanced by a sleek bodice. And just when you thought things were simple, an open-lace back and extravagant feathers flip the script, adding unexpected flair. Never one to play by the rules, Valentino once again proved that a leap of faith is always the most stylish move.
