If there’s one vibrant colour dominating the trainer landscape of late, it’s yellow. It might be a difficult tone to tackle in the style department, but an array of low-profile sneakers have emerged to balance the intensity with an understated silhouette. From the adidas Tokyo to the Japan, these sleek trainers are lightweight summer staples. The sunny hue is just a bonus, pairing perfectly with dark denim jeans and a casual tee. With a colour this controversial, there’s no need to overcomplicate things.

If you fancy trying out a less obvious shade, consider pink footwear. These New Balance 1906s are a fun way to test out the neon trend without going full-blown school disco. You can easily offset the sporty silhouette with an all-black ‘fit – think tailored trousers and a simple tank, or mini shorts and a blazer. This one’s all about balance (no pun intended).

Red shoes are everywhere. This summer trend is thanks in large part to The Row, which sent the industry spiralling when it debuted red jelly sandals and ballet flats earlier this year. Since then, everyone has been reaching for rosy flipflops and flats – but this bold tone works just as well in trainer form (the viral PUMA Speedcat being a prime example). Red is arguably a neutral at this point, as timeless as it is versatile. We love these PUMA shoes paired with beige tones and cargo pants – pulling everything together with a trusty white tee.

Green is a year-round staple, not least for the multitude of shades you can choose from. Whether it’s an earthy olive tone or a vibrant neon, this one’s easy to pair with neutrals and brights alike. Salomon’s XT-Whisper trainers are perfect for all your outdoor summer plans – but they’ll also add some edge to your feminine pieces. Consider grabbing these with a white cotton maxi skirt for real mix-and-match energy.

If you want to play it safe, blue is the ideal way to dip your toe into bright coloured trainers. They’ll stand out in an all-white look, but blend in seamlessly with denim – so you’re sure to reach for them no matter the season. Nike's summer-ready LD-1000 trainers combine a bright blue shade with deep burgundy for added depth, while the breathable fabric is a great addition to a sportier look – think micro shorts and a track jacket for off-duty style that still feels elevated.
