THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA 2'S CALEB HEARON HAS THOUGHTS ON PLUS-SIZE FASHION

Can you believe it's been 20 years since The Devil Wears Prada altered the face of fashion? Few movies have become so integrated into the zeitgeist as this one about a doe-eyed fashion intern and her intimidating boss. Now, in the long-awaited sequel, we finally get to see what Andy Sachs (played by Anne Hathaway) has been up to since her stint at fashion's most prestigious publication, Runway. And while OG cast members like Meryl Streep (Miranda Priestley), Emily Blunt (Emily Charlton), and Stanley Tucci (Nigel) returned as main characters, the film was filled with even more familiar faces. You may have pointed in surprise (in true Leo DiCaprio-meme fashion) at the sight of Jon Batiste, Anok Yai and Lady Gaga, but another welcome addition to the cast is everyone's favourite comedian, Caleb Hearon.

WHO DOES CALEB HEARON PLAY IN THE DEVIL WEAR'S PRADA 2?

Caleb's bright personality shows through his looks.

Caleb played Charlie, one half of Miranda's assistant duo (the other being actor Simone Ashley). You would've noticed him busily typing away outside her office in chunky glasses and an impressive carousel of printed shirts. Well, we managed to carve out five minutes of Caleb's jam-packed press run for a little chat (spoilers ahead).

Hey Caleb, how does it feel to be in The Devil Wears Prada 2?
It's really nuts – it's very, very exciting. I’m so happy! I was telling people last night: I didn't really believe I was in the film until I saw the New York premiere, and then I thought, boy, it's coming out too soon for them to cut me out now. So I think I'm actually in the film. It was very exciting.

You wore tons of stripes and fun shirts in the film. What's your favourite print or pattern for the season?
Caleb is so boring with fashion. Dressing up for this – my stylist has his work cut out for him. I'm dressed like Kevin James from King of Queens most of the time. My favourite? I really like a flannel. I'm just pretty basic. I can't help it, I’m from Missouri. But I do like to get dressed up when someone tells me how to do it.

Are there any style lessons you learned while filming?
A thing I was reminded of while being dressed as Charlie, is advice I have for fat people. And the thing I would tell fat people is: do not base your entire fashion approach around trying not to look fat, because you are fat, and everyone already knows that. I think that the biggest thing is every time we put on clothes, people would be like, 'That makes you look fat, or it doesn't, so it's good.' And I think the better approach is, 'What makes you feel confident? What makes you feel comfortable?' That's the big thing I've been thinking about the last couple of years.

It's been stated that 2026 is the new 2016. Are there any trends from that era you'd like to see come back?
Oh gosh, 10 years ago, I was 21, and I was in college. I was wearing khaki shorts and Sperry shoes. I think Sperrys are kind of making a comeback. I'm seeing boat shoes and boat shoe silhouettes a lot. I wasn't doing anything fashion-wise that needs to come back, for sure.

Would you survive being a fashion intern?
No, certainly not. Caleb would get fired immediately. I do not do well with being told what to do. The first time Miranda talks to me crazy, I'd get fired. I can tell you that much.

You're at a networking event, but your friend just received last-minute concert tickets to your favourite artist's gig. Are you going?
As Caleb? Oh, I'm going to the concert. I'll skip work for fun any day.

Let's increase the stakes. Miranda asks you to do an ad-hoc job after you've clocked out. But you're on your way to a concert. Are you doing a U-turn?
That really depends. It depends who the concert is and what the tickets are. If it's the VIP section, we're really in the special area, I'm probably going. If it's GA, I'll do my job, no worries.

You pull an Andy and borrow an archive piece from the magazine's collection. You had a little too much fun and stain it. How do you handle it?
Oh, I'm calling my mom immediately. I'm going, 'Mom, I'm in big trouble. What do I do about this stain?' And she'll have an answer. She knows everything.

So you're not going to own up to Nigel?
Oh, if I have to, I guess. Yeah, but I'm gonna try to fix it first. I would be scared to own up to Nigel, though. He's so chic.

Both Stanley (left) and Nigel love a good suit.

Whose wardrobe would you most like to raid – Nigel, Miranda, Emily or Andy?
It would have to be Nigel. We talked a lot about Nigel when we were preparing Charlie for this film. But yeah, he's so chic and fashionable. And I think his take on menswear and Stan's take on menswear in real life; it's just so fabulous.

Lastly, Miranda is a famously difficult boss. Have you ever been in a similar situation?
Yeah, I was an assistant when I was out of college and I had some bosses like that. Most of my bosses were actually lovely. But I definitely had one or two that were nightmares from hell. And I wish them well. I hope they're doing okay. But at the time, I did not wish them well.
