CHARLES MELTON LOVES A FUN FLORAL

Netflix hit Beef is all about conflict. But star Charles Melton has been nothing but a calming presence – thanks to his press tour wardrobe. The actor stepped out in a floral shirt and jacket this week to promote the new series, and it’s safe to say we’ve got zero beef with this impeccable outfit.

We've got zero beef with Charles Melton's wardrobe.

From the relaxed tailored trousers to the chunky dress shoes and slim sunglasses, Charles’ dainty blue florals are grounded in old-school menswear. It’s as sharp as his cheekbones, with all the softness of his on-screen character Austin – whose bumbling naivety proves a highlight of Beef’s second season. Love his look? Here's how to recreate it.

FIRST, FIND YOUR FLORAL

Florals have always been a no-brainer for spring. But incorporating them into your wardrobe takes a little trial and error. Go too far, and it feels performative. In the same breath, you don’t want to shoehorn a floral into your basics just for the sake of it. Charles strikes the perfect balance with a half-and-half approach. It’s a party up top and business down below. To achieve the same effect, keep your florals contained to one part of the outfit. Whether it’s a shirt, trousers, or hat, don’t be tempted to branch out. And avoid mixing different prints.

Start with the print and build your look from there.

Colour is the key to finding your flowery match. Primary shades are trending this season, so anything bright red or cobalt blue is a good place to start. If you’re averse to a vivacious statement, reach for smaller floral patterns that appear abstract from afar. A single, standout flower will make your outfit feel more modern and architectural. Either will look flattering if layered with the right pieces, so it’s just about finding what speaks to your style.

THEN ADD THE BASICS

Once you’ve found your floral, let it do the talking. Think of the rest of your look as the pedestal on which your printed piece can sing. Avoid jeans (unless you’re going for a bohemian 70s aesthetic), opting instead for clean understated pieces like Charles’ black tailored trousers. Florals are fun and frivolous, so formal-leaning items like dress shoes or loafers help them feel a bit more ‘grown up’.
