MORE THAN FASHION

EVERYTHING ON OUR RADAR THIS MONTH

The leftovers are gone, the Christmas tree has been taken down and you're back at your desk – the celebrations might be over, but there's still loads of things to plot into your January calendar. The first month of the year is infamous for either whizzing past or being seriously slow. And if you're destined to endure the latter, we’re sure the films, music and things to do below will be more than enough to pass the time. Let's go.
Myha'la on the set of Industry

Between All's Fair and Industry, Hollywood can't get enough of power tailoring.

INDUSTRY SEASON 4 – 11 JANUARY

Starring Myha'la, Industry clocks in for another season of ruthless corporate politics at Pierpoint & Co. And with season 3’s virality (thanks in part to Harper and Yasmin’s fragile frenemyship and Kit Harington’s unwavering charm), season 4 promises even more drama. Expect power tailoring, infuriating new characters and a surprisingly accurate depiction of London’s financial scene.

TELL ME LIES SEASON 3 – 13 JANUARY
When it comes to young adult TV shows, perhaps Gossip GirlThe OC or Pretty Little Liars immediately come to mind. Well now Tell Me Lies is on its way to joining the best of the best with its unique storytelling and pantheon of morally grey characters. Adapted from Carola Lovering’s 2018 book of the same name, the series follows Lucy and Steven as they juggle their relationship, exes and endless tragedies during their early 20s. If you know how season 2 ended, season 3 is about to shake things up even more.

THE MOMENT – 30 JANUARY
From writing Substack essays to creating a genre-defying Wuthering Heights soundtrack album, Charli xcx has become quite the polymath. Her latest film, The Moment, is produced by cult-favourite A24 and directed by Aidan Zamiri. And if you haven’t already seen the trailer, the BRAT-themed poster should clue you in on the film’s premise. The mockumentary goes BTS with Charli as she navigates the highs and lows of A-list life and her own creative limitations during the iconic BRAT era. Plus, it throws in some star-studded cameos from the likes of Rachel Sennott, Bill Skårsgard and Kylie Jenner for good measure.

We can't wait to hear Locket.
A$AP ROCKY, DON’T BE DUMB – 16 JANUARY
Landing a whole eight years after his previous project Testing, A$AP Rocky is back with new album Don’t Be Dumb. Although his post-2018 singles like Babushka Boi and D.M.B. don’t appear to have made the tracklist, we can expect an array of serious hits on the album. Plus, with producers like Tyler, The Creator, Metro Boomin and Swedish House Mafia, the album's shaping up to be major.

MADISON BEER, LOCKET – 16 JANUARY
Boasting singles Make you MineBittersweet and Yes Baby, Madison Beer’s Locket is already off to a fabulous start. She performed all three during her Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show performance back in October (while wearing the cutest baby-pink bodice and feathery wings, mind you). Was the performance a teaser of all the angelic vocals and sweet lyrics we’re about to hear on her third upcoming album? We hope so.
Kerry James Marshall artwork

Kerry James Marshall's exhibition is not one to miss.

KERRY JAMES MARSHALL: THE HISTORIES, ROYAL ACADEMY OF ARTS – UNTIL 18 JANUARY
Kerry James Marshall’s art has temporarily touched down in the UK for an incredible exhibition. With influences spanning the Black Panther party, his own African American culture and the many great artists before him, Kerry's mastery of colour and composition is not to be missed. His art transports you into the world of the late 20th century USA, showcasing black American lifestyles and honouring their contributions to the modern world. You’ve got until 18 January to get awe-struck.

DIRTY LOOKS: DESIRE AND DECAY IN FASHION, BARBICAN CENTRE – UNTIL 25 JANUARY
Featuring famed alternative houses like Vivienne Westwood, Alexander McQueen and Maison Margiela (alongside an array of indie labels), this exhibition rips the plaster off haute couture and ready-to-wear – instead celebrating the unhinged side of high fashion. And with the trend pendulum swinging ever closer to late 00s/early 10s grunge, there’s no better time to dissect the gritty aesthetics you’re about to spot all over socials.
