Three styles for thinning hair
By Gavin Jewkes, 11 October 2015
We’re always banging on about barnets and how you can style yours. But what if you’re not blessed with a head of lustrous locks? Here, we break down the best styles for men with thinning hair. Let’s face it, topknots and quiffs have had their day – who needs hair anyway?
The crop
More refined than the traditional buzz cut, this style works well for men who are thinning evenly on top. The step between the shaved sides and top section is faded in slightly and there’s enough length and texture through the top to allow for a soft, smart finish. The great thing about this style is that it requires minimal effort to create each morning – just wash and add some lightweight, matte texturising clay to create volume.
The pompadour
When Mother Nature mercifully leaves the front of your head with plenty of hair but a crown that’s thinning by the month, the clever way to create the illusion of a thicker, fuller barnet all over – should you wish to – is to go for an always-on-point pompadour. David Beckham’s cut is high and tight at the back and sides but has plenty of length through the top. The difference in length here, together with the artfully swept back top section, helps create the impression of a volume-packed, fashion-forward 'do.
The close shave
If, like Jason Statham, your follicle situation is weak, then fluffing about what little you have left can look a bit desperate. Instead, embrace the bald and go for a to-the-bone buzz cut. Not only does this look fresh and sharp, but you can do it yourself at home, which saves precious pounds that can be better spent down the pub.
