ALL-OUT OCCASIONWEAR WAS THE BAFTAS DRESS CODE: THESE ARE THE STARS WHO DELIVERED
February 17, 2025
Last night’s BAFTAs were drenched in embellishments, Tiffany jewelry and all the old-Hollywood glamour any couch fashion critic could ask for. London’s Royal Festival Hall saw films like Anora, The Brutalist and Dune: Part Two celebrated for their brilliance, but it was also a masterclass in OTT occasionwear, thanks to celebs like Mikey Madison and Naomi Ackie. If there was an award for best dressed, the celebs below are our nominees...

MIKEY MADISON
Best Actress wasn’t the only trophy Mikey Madison was taking home. The Anora star stunned in a custom ivory Prada dress, referencing the iconic old-Hollywood style of Marilyn Monroe, Rita Hayworth and Elizabeth Taylor. Completed with a matching stole and dazzling jewelry, there was no better look to cement her place as one of the industry’s rising stars.

SELENA GOMEZ
“Gagged” doesn’t even remotely cover our feelings when we saw Selena. Daniel Roseberry signed, sealed and delivered with this custom Schiaparelli dress, which included the house’s signature corsetry and intricate embellishing. Our favorite element? The black plunging bust underneath. If this doesn’t give glamourous 20th-century aristocrat vibes, we don’t know what does.

CYNTHIA ERIVO
Nominated as best dressed by Camila Cabello and Nabhaan Rizwan, Cynthia Erivo’s sculptural Louis Vuitton look was something to behold. The floral gown broke boundaries with a large front panel and subtle fishtail silhouette. The look was completed by Cynthia’s signature claws – she even told ASOS that although they look difficult to use, some kitchen utensils and lots of practice have made her a master at the long-nail lifestyle.

DEMI MOORE
If you haven’t already watched The Substance, WYD? Mother AKA Demi Moore’s dress lies somewhere between abstract art you’d see in the Tate Modern and stained glass, courtesy of none other than Alexander McQueen. The encrusted gown is backless and features thousands of crystals that co-ordinate with her clutch. A look.

NAOMI ACKIE
Blink Twice and Mickey 17 actress Naomi Ackie looked breathtaking in a one-shoulder chainmail Versace number. In an interview with ELLE, Ackie said, 'It enhances what you have in such a beautiful way. It’s so feminine, and yet feels really cool, especially in the brown'. A sleek hairstyle, smoky bronze makeup and Cartier jewelry were the perfect finishing touches for such a memorable ensemble.
