The Topshop SS23 collection started with a plethora of references: from fibre artists and sculpture-architects to everyday life in the city – more specifically, the Spanish city of Bilbao. The curved concrete of the Guggenheim Museum, the dark buildings set against green mountains and bright skies, the mix of futuristic and art deco architecture... Bilbao is a city of contrasts, and that same theme is evident throughout Topshop's new-season line-up. Think soft, crafty details paired with structured fabrics, bright colours and prints to stand out against the grey of urban life, and classic tailoring with an unexpected, modern edge. Discover more below as we delve into this season's key trends and hero pieces...

CRAFT
The collection is peppered with softer textures that look just as good on the beach as they do paired with city-appropriate staples. Ideal for when you want to bring a relaxed holiday vibe to the office – we say, style it and the mood will follow (in a law-of-attraction kind of way). Crochet, knits, tassels and knotted details are all key. We’re calling this trend 'craft' because of the intricate nature of these designs – in fact, some of the collection is based on hand-woven samples created in the homes of our London-based designers.

NEW TAILORING
The two ends of the tailoring spectrum. 80s nostalgia is visible throughout the collection, most obviously in this structured blazer, which is taken to the next level with the addition of a belted waist and slicked-back hair. The result is a super striking look for your next evening out. For the ultimate summer-in-the-city mood, this relaxed white suit styled with laid-back jersey and flatform sandals feels especially on-point.

BOLD PRINTS
We’re also seeing printed pieces that are as bold in design as they are in colour. Tie-dye enters 2023 with this co-ord set – a formal shirt with a playful print speaks to the continuing theme of contradictions we’re seeing throughout this collection. Wear it open over swimwear for a holiday feel or team it with heels for something more polished. And if you’re looking for this summer's event dress, look no further than this monochrome maxi and its artful design. It's absolutely appropriate to wear a white and black dress to a wedding, right?

CLEAN 90s
This is the dress we’ve been waiting for. Your next ‘it’ frock is here, combining the intense pink hue none of us can get enough of with a low-key 90s silhouette. And for something a little more playful, this mini puff dress incorporates the utility aesthetic with the subtle addition of a drawstring along the neckline, making it an immediate win. Pair with bare legs or wear it over jeans when the British weather isn't playing ball (as per).
