INTERVIEW
3 REASONS WE'D SWIPE RIGHT ON MYHA'LA
By Emma Strawbridge, 19 September 2025
You might know Myha'la as Industry’s Harper Stern, and though the toxic workplace setting of Swiped – the biopic of Bumble and Tinder founder Whitney Wolfe Herd (played by Lily James) – might feel familiar, her character Tisha couldn’t be more different. Tisha, Whitney's colleague at Tinder and later Bumble, is the voice of reason – optimistic and grounding, with a goth-punk aesthetic and a lot of hairstyles to boot. Fresh off the red carpet for the premiere of Swiped, the American actor sat down with us to talk personal style, nostalgia and how she gets into character. Scroll for the highlights.
#1: SHE'S A GOTH GIRL AT HEART

It only takes a scroll through Myha’la’s socials to see her style errs on the side of 90s supermodel – effortless cami tops, satin slip dresses and denim are this actor’s bread and butter. But the dark palette, blacked-out sunglasses and silver hardware leave remnants of a previous goth girl. When asked if her character Tisha’s style resonated with her own, she said, ‘Honestly, I slipped right into that aesthetic. It felt like my scene-goth-punk era [from] when I was, like, 12. This was, like, my ideal version of myself, had I been a grown person in 2011 or whatever. It was so fun.'
#2: SHE STILL LOVES TUMBLR (NO, REALLY)

Tisha’s punk-leaning aesthetic and (many) different hairstyles throughout the film were perfect for Myha’la’s acting style. She explained: 'I feel like when you get a strong look like that, it helps you so much more to drop into whatever you're doing, because you look at yourself and you really don't look like you.'
