WHAT TO WEAR SKIING: YOUR SKI-SEASON ESSENTIALS

Wondering what to wear skiing? Good news: our skiwear edit has just dropped, featuring Threadbare, Moon Boot, 4505 Ski and more. ‘4505 Ski is going glam for AW25,’ says Laurie Thompson, Senior Assistant Buyer for 4505. ‘We’ve updated our signature suits and separates with snow-leopard prints, high-shine fabrics, faux-fur trims and rich tones – perfect for staying stylish and warm.’ If that wasn’t enough, these women's skiwear icons reimagine chalet-girl style for a new age with off-piste-ready thermals and cosy accessories perfect for an après-ski hot chocolate. Let us do the packing for you.

THE BASE LAYERS

Knowing what layers to wear for skiing is key to a successful packing session, so we’re breaking each one down. Thermals are one of the most important pieces for a day on the slopes – you need warmth, and these soft-jersey basics are the way to do it. Plus, the seamless design means ultimate comfort when you’re on the move all day. Layer ski sweaters on top of your thermals and you’re good to go.

THE MID-LAYERS

Don't sleep on fleeces – all the best ski outfits feature them. Stocking up on fleeces like this one from Abercrombie & Fitch is a must. The quarter-zip design makes it super easy to pull on and off, there are pockets (always handy while skiing), and the funnel neck will protect against chafing and the cold. If you’re fresh on the scene and unsure what to wear skiing for the first time, ski pants and salopettes, AKA ski trousers, are the answer. Salopettes are designed to maximise coverage and warmth with their bib-and-suspender design.

THE OUTER LAYERS

We've sorted what to wear under a ski jacket, but we can’t tell you what to bring skiing without mentioning the main piece: the ski jacket. Laurie’s loving 4505’s just-landed layers: ‘Look out for statement pieces like the [faux] fur-trim bomber for effortless “chalet girl” polish. My personal pick is the snow-leopard jacket.’ The former’s sleek design makes it a worthy investment season-round, not just for the snow. The latter keeps your style and comfort in check with an eye-catching print, helmet-compatible hood and adjustable snow skirt.

THE APRES-SKI ESSENTIALS

Now on to the fun stuff – like knitwear! Nothing says ‘just spent a whole day skiing and now I’m going to sit by the fire and eat fondue’ like ski sweaters. The high-neck design of this Gina Tricot knit nods to 90s skiwear trends, and who doesn’t love a little nostalgia? According to Laurie, the ski headband isn’t just a functional pick – it’s a style essential for achieving that chic vibe, 'Whether you’re skiing or enjoying an après spritz.’

THE ACCESSORIES

Do you know what we love? Accessories that are practical but also bring the vibes. And no one does snow boots like Moon Boot. They’re warm, stylish and can double as slippers when you’re back in the UK. But let’s not forget about the basics. Hats and gloves are self-explanatory for on and off the slopes. Alongside your knit headband, add a faux-fur headband or trapper hat to really serve cold-weather cool.
