AT THIS POINT, BURGUNDY ISN'T JUST A TREND – IT'S A STAPLE
By Emma Strawbridge, 17 November 2025
Burgundy has had us hooked since the AW24 runways – that’s almost two years of our lives – and our love for the colour shows no sign of fading. From rich cherry shades to deep mahogany tones, each autumn we welcome back burgundy like an old friend into our wardrobes.

WHY IS BURGUNDY STILL TRENDING?
The main takeaway here: burgundy is back (rather, it never left). Here’s how to wear it now – and probably next season, too.
HOW TO WEAR BURGUNDY FOR AW25:
#1: COLOUR DRENCH

We love burgundy so much, there’s absolutely no doubt we’ll be drenching ourselves in it from head to toe all winter. Going full monochromatic is an easy way to elevate an outfit – just ask Jenna Ortega. Coloured tights will be everywhere this party season, so show them off with micro shorts, a cinched blazer and heels. The only thing left to add? An outrageously oversized faux-fur coat, obviously.

#2: A STATEMENT COAT

If you want to make a statement but aren’t quite at the dripping-in-burgundy stage of your style, a statement burgundy coat is the next best thing. Whether you opt for floor-length and tailored or oversized and shaggy, this is the season to let your outerwear do the talking. Feeling adventurous? Make like this Fashion Month guest and layer up belts over your coat for a cinched silhouette – it's definitely a statement.

#3: THE SANDWICH METHOD

You may have heard of the sandwich method already. If you have, you’ll know it’s a simple way to make an outfit feel put-together and cohesive. If you haven’t, let us explain. The sandwich method is where you ‘sandwich’ one aspect of your outfit (the filling, if you will) between two others. In this case, burgundy is the bread. The outfit is top-and-tailed with a burgundy top and shoes, making it feel cohesive and effortless without the burgundy feeling overpowering. Clever, right?

#4: JUST A LITTLE BIT

Maybe you’re just dipping your toe into the world of burgundy, or maybe you’re not a fan of too much colour – both of which are totally fine. If that’s the case, let your accessories inject some fun, yet subtle colour into your outfits. A burgundy bag is a failsafe, but if you want to think a little bit more out of the box, go for some burgundy jewellery, blue-light glasses (or prescription, your call!) or an AW25 micro-trend like this knitted triangle scarf – the perfect finishing touch to any autumn/winter look.
