MET GALA: THE STYLE FEED TEAM'S PREDICTIONS ON THIS YEAR'S LOOKS
By Emma Strawbridge, May 4, 2024

The first Monday in May is fast approaching, and, as always, we’ll be refreshing our feeds from our couches to see what looks our favorite A-listers are serving (while we’re in our best sweats, obv). Until then, over at ASOS HQ, we’ve been musing over who’s going and how they’re going to interpret this year’s theme – keep reading to find out more about who's going and see who we think will be stealing the show.
WHAT'S THE THEME?
This year’s theme is The Garden of Time – inspired by JG Ballard’s 1962 novel of the same name. It coincides with The Met’s exhibition, Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion, which references vintage pieces too fragile to be moved from the museum’s archives. The obvious (and literal) choice for celebs is going to be florals, but vintage pieces have been cropping up on red carpets for a while now, and this is the perfect excuse to wear archival designs from some *iconic* designers – we can’t wait!
WHO'S GOING?
Well, Rihanna for one!! Did we mention we interviewed her last month? Yepp, the queen of The Met will be in attendance, and whether you loved the 2015 Guo Pei dress that birthed a thousand memes or not, you can’t deny RiRi knows how to make an entrance. Other confirmed attendees include Zendaya (!!!!), Bad Bunny, JLo and Chris Hemsworth AKA the co-chairs of the event.

THE BREAKOUT STYLE ICON
If Taylor Russell’s red carpet looks of late are anything to go by, we predict the Canadian actress is going to eat the Met steps UP. And she'll probably do it in Loewe (especially as Jonathan Anderson will be at the event, too). Even though going for florals is definitely not groundbreaking, Loewe’s iconic SS23 3D anthurium dress would be very fitting for the occasion.

THE MOST ON-THEME
Ayo Edebiri cleaned up during awards season, and so did her red carpet style. The Bear actress leans towards structural silhouettes on the red carpet (see: the Louis Vuitton gown above), and we’d love to see her in some vintage Thom Browne or one of Harris Reed’s signature headpieces… let’s not forget *that* Iman look.

BEST DRESSED
Off the back of previous years, not to mention the press tours for Dune: Part Two and The Challengers, AND the fact she’s a co-chair of the event, we’re going to have to vote Zendaya as our prediction for best dressed. Even if Law Roach confessed the pair didn’t yet have a look just a week ago… What would we love to see her in though? We can imagine a stunt similar to the Cinderella vibe from the 2019 Met Gala, maybe on the theme of fragility (taken from the novel) – breaking out of something. But more than anything we want *vintage*. And we know Zendaya's stylist Law Roach will have access to some of the best archival looks.
