TOP LUNAR NEW YEAR PICKS
By Ezra Maloney, 22 January 2023
Happy Lunar New Year! It’s the Year of the Rabbit, a symbol of peace, prosperity and longevity 🐇 To celebrate, we sat down with ASOSer Zijiao Li to chat about her fave Lunar New Year traditions, celebrations, and ofc, outfits! Check out her dreamy top picks below 🎊
ASOS DESIGN boxy blazer, £65
ASOS DESIGN tailored mini skirt, £26
Hi Zijiao! Tell us a lil bit about Lunar New Year.
Well, it's *the* most important festival of the year in China (where I’m from!) and in many other Asian countries, too. It marks the beginning of spring and the calendar year, according to the agricultural calendar. Members of the family usually get together and celebrate 🥳

ASOS EDITION sequin pencil midi skirt, £85
ASOS EDITION Petite v-neck cropped cardigan, £22.50
Sounds like alotta fun! How do you usually celebrate, and what will you do this year?
We usually prepare big meals, decorate the house with red lanterns and Spring Festival Couplets AKA Chunlian (poetic verses written in gold ink on red paper banners!), gift red envelopes with cash inside to children and set off a lot of fireworks and firecrackers. I'll be celebrating LNY in Paris this year instead of in China – but I’ll have a good meal with my friends in a Chinese restaurant!

ASOS DESIGN corset cut out maxi dress, £40
Topshop Maeve Western boots, £69
Paris?! Oh, you're gonna have the best time 🇫🇷 So, what're your fave Lunar New Year traditions?
Definitely the red envelopes! Although my mum always took the money out and volunteered to 'keep it in a safe place' for me... Oh, and ofc, the fireworks! (Editor's note: red envelopes filled with money symbolise good luck and good wishes for the New Year ✨)

ASOS DESIGN Petite off shoulder midi dress, £50
ASOS DESIGN Petite cord mini dress, £38
What’s the perfff Lunar New Year outfit?
Red, red and more RED ❤️ I'll probs be rocking my red coat or sweater, but a (you guessed it) red scarf or hat could be a good alternative to brighten up your look if it's not your go-to colour.
