MAKING MOVES WITH TOMMY JEANS
By Jazmin Duribe, 3 October 2022
There’s something about 90s fashion that just hits differently, and nothing screams nostalgic energy quite like Tommy Jeans 👖 Worn by icons like Aaliyah and TLC, Tommy is back with a new exclusive ASOS collab that has us 🤤 For this gorg campaign, the brand puts the spotlight on London's roller-skate subculture, so we chatted with two pros – Lenah and Renee – about the ☕️ on the buzzing skate scene, their Tommy Jeans faves and where they find inspo. Scroll for immaculate ✨vibez✨
I’ve been a street skater for just over 10 years. I started off on the roads with my friends from secondary school – I think that’s when I learned my balance.
What inspires your roller-skating style?
I like to be comfy, I LOVE sportswear so I wear a lot of leggings and joggers. I wear a lot of black, too – ppl say I have a ninja vibe. Butttttt I also like to match colours, I've got seven or eight pairs of skates in different colours, and I switch 'em up depending on the 'fit.
Aaliyah and Lauryn Hill. I am so inspired by their style and outfits. That's why I like the graphic Tommy jacket and mini skirt – I don't wear a lot of skirts but this denim one is v cute. And the oversized fit? Love it 💗
Now over to you Renee – what's the best thing about London's roller-skate scene?
It’s really inclusive. Everyone’s friendly and it’s so big, I think you’ll definitely find your tribe – whoever that is. I’m slightly introverted and have low-key friends, but if you’re extroverted, you’ll find people like that too.
Just between us Renee – where’s the best roller skating spot in London?
My personal fav is one you’re not allowed to skate in anymore – not gonna say which! 🤫
How would you describe your style?
With clothes, it’s just whatever – I throw on anything. A little bit baggy, a little bit tomboy! I LOVE layering Tommy pieces – it’s giving TLC, 90s and oversized vibes, especially the dungarees 🤩
